BTS Community Moderator Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 The Donaldson trade was pretty much unanimously considered a pillaging from the moment it was made, and that trade is praised constantly. I'm pretty sure I show the appropriate reverence to it like twice a month. I don't really think people are ignoring the Donaldson trade.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Author Posted October 26, 2015 Payroll isn't really on him. And the Dodgers are good. Also, weren't you all over Zaidi's nuts up until now? Greinke-Kershaw + s***. Ethier, Crawford, Rollins, Utley, LatosMoney, OliveraMoney

Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Greinke-Kershaw + s***. Ethier, Crawford, Rollins, Utley, LatosMoney, OliveraMoney Every team is going to have some negative assets, a lot of those guys were inherited from the old dodgers regime. I'll give them another year to get there feet under them.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Author Posted October 26, 2015 Well... your dumn I know. In 2015, the Dodgers lineup did not look like one of 300 million Seager, Puig, AGon, Turner are good, but tons of money

Nafro Verified Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 When the hell are we going to hear from Shapiro? Correct me if I'm wrong but I think date technicalities create the problem. I believe Paul Beeston and Alex Anthopolous' contracts expire October 31st, and Shapiro's does not come into effect until November 1st. I could be wrong, but I believe this is the reason nothing has been made formal.

Lawrie took a huge step back defensively and his plate discipline eroded. Graveman took a step back and Nolin looks to be crap. That leaves Barreto as the one good piece. Meanwhile Donaldson became the MVP and looks to be one of the best players for the foreseeable future. My issue is people constantly bringing up the Dickey trade without mentioning the Donaldson trade or all the other great trades AA has made.

I think they're still recovering from that abysmall trade with the Red Sox where they acquired Crawford Beckett and A-Gon for $250 million. Plus they have a 4th outfielder receiving $18 million, and a ton of money out there to pretty much every Cuban ballplayer with a raft. Friedman has a nice hole to dig himself out of. On the plus side, he's got $300 million to play with every year.

They now bring in American private jets or speed boats.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 If Shapiro is as smart as some think, he will keep AA at least until he gets his feet under him. He was hired, not just for the Jays, but to handle all the operating side, and stadium renovations. I would highly doubt that he would make any drastic changes in the next year or so. If AA and him can't work along side each other, then he will find this out down the road and will do something then. Plus, he doesn't want to start off his career with the Jays hated by fans, because he fired the Jays "savior that got them to the playoffs" If Shapiro sees inefficiencies in AA's process (and it is there) you better believe he's gonna try to correct it. He'll give the GM the reins to a point, but he's still is in charge of how the office is run (ex. over reliance on scouting, for example.)
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 They have a 12M team option. Would you guys rather give Estrada 2 years $24M instead of giving $12M to Dickey in 2016?
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Would you guys rather give Estrada 2 years $24M instead of giving $12M to Dickey in 2016? Dickey for me.

Slugger Verified Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Would you guys rather give Estrada 2 years $24M instead of giving $12M to Dickey in 2016? Yes. That contract isn't realistic though.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Would you guys rather give Estrada 2 years $24M instead of giving $12M to Dickey in 2016? Estrada IMO. More fun to watch, better in every way, younger.
King Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 "A pillaging...for the A's." - Jonn I believe the correct quote is, from page 1 of the "OMG JAYS ACQUIRING DONALDSON" thread; "We got raped." Post was deleted when o2 banned Jonns account by accident.

I don't think we really know enough (for certain) about Shapiro's management style to make any sweeping generalizations like this.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Yes. That contract isn't realistic though. AAV is about right, although Estrada probably has the leverage to get a 3rd year at this point. Maybe a mutual option with a buyout would work.
Slugger Verified Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 I don't think we really know enough (for certain) about Shapiro's management style to make any sweeping generalizations like this. I'm somewhat familiar with Shapiro, but I don't know exactly what to expect. It's been a Beeston organization for 80% of its existance. Is he going to mercifully remove the tacky Pat Gillick and 12 banners, please God? "Oh, I see in the Level of Excellence you have prominent players with their numbers, however those numbers aren't retired but Alomar's is because his has a circle around it, and we'll also hang a banner as well."
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Picking up Dickey's option is a no brainer. They could always trade him afterwards. I'm sure some team will take him. Whether the Jays get anything worthwhile back is another story, but he's an asset. Dickey is valuable to the Jays but my god I hate having a knuckleball pitcher. However, as of now, the Jays need him.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Boxy and Dinger: Estrada vs. Dickey 2016 ERA and IP wager? I don't believe the Estrada is better.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 WAR: 2013 - 1.7 2014 - 1.7 2015 - 2.1 We have to pick up that option for the 200 IP even though we all hate the KB. I think at one point Dickey was in the negative fWAR range around 1.0 as well which makes that all the better.

BTS Community Moderator Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 I wouldn't bet on IP, but I would bet on ERA with a minimum of 150 IP. What about RA-9 WAR?
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 No. So you think Estrada is the better investment but won't bet on him being more valuable. Your dumn. Boxy?
