Do people still think Heyward is only getting $200M in a world where Greinke got 206M?

It is a possibility. Maybe there is a market divide between pitching and hitting. And what Greinke got was more crazy compared to what Price got (which was maybe 20 million too rich). What Zobrist gets will probably give us a better idea of the hitting market. Regardless, 200 million was just a number. Let's go 8 years 220 million then.

I just want Heyward hahaha

Craig Stammen among FAs #BlueJays are in touch w/ per source. RHP missed most of '15 w/ forearm surgery. Has 3.02 ERA, 8.4 K/9 as reliever.

The people that have the idea in their head that there is even a 1% chance he's coming here better wake up to the real world. Outfield is where we have the most depth. The only reason you go after him if you think he's an upgrade over Revere/Saunders/Pompey or he somehow has value with the contract he's going to get. It's a play you don't have to make and shouldn't make.

If he's healthy he'd be a nice get. Hopefully it would be a minor league deal or a very low guarantee with incentives.

Or? Or? Don't you mean AND has value on the contract because he's definitely an upgrade over Revere/Saunders/Pompey.

Sure, but he sucked at it.

He would churn through a bunch of backend guys and never really give them a chance. Ex., Jeffress became a stud like as soon as Toronto got rid of him. Same with Chavez. There are other names littered in the recent bullpen history of the Jays that should have been given more of a chance. Coello, Colt Hynes, Dyson, Wagner, maybe Rasmussen

The only buy-low or bounce back RP type that I can think of that worked out in AA's entire tenure is Hendricks... maybe Delabar was a buy-low? More of a fair deal.

He bought on guys with Saves experience like Hawkins, CoCo, Francisco, Santos, Lyon.

He overpaid for guys with good scouting grades, like Esmil Rogers and Brad Lincoln.

He brought SP prospects up from A ball out of desperation to fill bullpen needs.

I really don't think AA was too good at playing the reliever game.

Smart teams like Tampa turn free again bargains into shut down relievers on the regular, man. Like, yearly.

I agree with a lot of this but he didn't acquire Hawkins because of saves. He was having a really nice year, as was Lowe. Now they slowed down because of age and injuries, but that's another discussion though. Also a lot of people rip him for bringing Castro up which is fair, but he also hit on bringing Osuna up and moving Sanchez to the pen.

Even if you grant that Osuna to the pen this year was for the best, he managed to f*** it up by not leaving him in the minors for three weeks. A full year of service time spent in the pen could be costly if they don't get that time back.

I wish Ted Rogers was still around. I feel like he'd be like Ilitch. Whatever it takes to win.

Talk about revisionist history. Ted Rogers didn't give a s*** about this team except as a revenue stream.

The Jays probably valued just getting him experience in the big leagues, which was probably the wrong way to go about it. Also remember AA's job was on the line, so he was going with what he thought was his best players for the most part.

Kind of related - Stroman will be a super two player specifically because he was used in relief for a couple of useless weeks in May 2014.

I'm sure the new regime will be a lot more concerned about service time manipulation in general.

The old regime made tons of mistakes like that. Burning an option year on Nolin for one 2-inning start comes to mind.

Remember when they attempted to callup Chad Jenkins before the 10 days min. in the minors, announced it to the press and everything, then had to change the player they called up (to Marcus Walden) the next day after the Jenkins callup was voided?

You say that like AA didn't do the same thing.

AA was just way less specific with what he was up to and thinking

I'm seeing a lot of complaints about the new regime not making any moves which is silly in its own right - (a) because it's not true and (B) it's no guarantee that AA would have done anything bigger or bolder given the roster parameters right now. But didn't AA go multiple offseasons and trade deadlines where he did jack s***?

A lot of people just started paying attention in July.

Also, standing pat is underrated. The Cardinals don't make a whole lot of bold moves, and they do OK. An offseason of low-risk, low-key additions is a perfectly valid plan given where the team is.

Yeah for sure. And I feel like there were times that the Jays needed to do something though and AA didn't. Seems like he had one big offseason and one big trade deadline.

Devon Travis too. Although the entire service time system could be overhauled in the next CBA to get rid of players spending 3 weeks in the minors.
