Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 He isn't though. Tanaka was much better in Japan, has better stuff and was two years younger. Maeda is more of a mid-rotation starter. The Yankees paid Tanaka like he was an elite pitcher. So, he'll get the same money.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 You should've put his AAV in your contest, instead of BIG PELF, lol.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 damnit.... wanted him moved for Thor
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 How is that "the biggest" trade in blue jays history? AA has made a few that are quite a bit bigger in whatever metric you want to use.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Most immediately successful? Donaldson trade was far better in that regard.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Trade for a young, future HOF'er is a tough metric to beat. By giving up just about equal value. Josh Donaldson just had a season that dwarfs any Alomar had. He may also end up being a hall of famer.

Not that this is a logical opinion, but I was 5 years old and Joe Carter was pretty much my idol for a long time.

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 I was a professional mantis for 16 weeks, and let me tell you, when the female mating partner consumes your head after delivery of the spermatophore, it takes a toll on your body. I found the physical strain to be tremendous. That's why I turn to Weber Naturals glucosamine chondroitin.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Wonder if Shapiro and the FO has talked contract extensions with any of the players yet. Donaldson and Bautista have said they wanted to finish their careers here and Stroman retweeted an article mentioning him as a target for young players to be extended for what its worth. The longer they wait the more expensive its going to be.

Only way customers will even bother is when they ask the aisle clerk "where's that s*** that Joe Carter hocks?"
taximan89 Verified Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Someone should tweet Roy Halladay to tell him to sweet talk his buddy Cliff Lee into considering Toronto this year.
wamco Verified Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Trading away mcgriff and tony Fernandez was pretty damn big.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Trading away mcgriff and tony Fernandez was pretty damn big. So what's the metric, then? Giving away good players to get equally good players back? If so, Miami trade was bigger. Getting a franchise quality player in a deal for a fan favourite? Lawrie + for Donaldson was a better deal for the Jays than McGriff + Fernandez for Carter and Alomar. The REAL reason it's considered the biggest by some people is due to nostalgia only, which is a pretty s***** reason.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Happ, Estrada deals looking like steals atm.
flafson Verified Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Happ, Estrada deals looking like steals atm. Are you sure? Everyone quoting the Happ deal as a huge factor in why prices been going extremely high this year. It's like they are saying, if someone as bad as Happ can get 30M, someone of value is worth the whole farm.

There has been an explosion in baseball revenues in the last couple of years and the money is now trickling down to the players, its got nothing to do with Happ.

Secondly, if Happ waits out the market he probably get a lot more from somewhere else. The Jays just attacked him and got their man.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Happ, Estrada deals looking like steals atm. Happ might still be a fair market deal come spring. Lots of people were floored when he got 36M, but at this point it looks like that was just the first domino to fall in a crazy FA market surge. The Estrada deal looks pretty nice though. He probably would have easily gotten a 3rd year on the market.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 It's also totally possible that you can QO Estrada/Happ/Chavez at the ends of their contracts so there is a bit more value there.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 It's also totally possible that you can QO Estrada/Happ/Chavez at the ends of their contracts so there is a bit more value there. Come again? Why would you QO a 34 year old, a 36 year old and a 33 year old? None of which are worth it
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 It's also totally possible that you can QO Estrada/Happ/Chavez at the ends of their contracts so there is a bit more value there. Very remote possibilities. None of them are likely to be good enough to warrant a QO when they are free agents.
