L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 People were pissed at d'Arnaud in the deal first. Then Syndergaard broke, darkest moments ever. Yup. I remember people laughing at Mets fans coming to the board saying that they were hearing they were getting Thor as well. I don't think a single board member actually thought we'd trade them both.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 I remember reading a rumor that it was Gose and JPA for Dickey. Or maybe that was Twitter speculation. When I found out it was TDA and Syndergaard, I had to do a double take to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. The Marlins trade showed a complete lack of knowledge of player value, and the Dickey trade just compounded it. Acquiring a 37-year old coming off a season that he was never going to duplicate and basing the quality of prospects given up on that unsustainable season rather than any future projection was bad when it happened, bad the next day, bad the day after that, etc. No hindsight needed. The better question was which trade was worse, that or the Marlins deal. It's a toss up.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Sure, but no major media outlet thought so Cause that's who you go to when you want to know about prospect value, upside, scouting reports, etc.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Listening to Lacava's interview it doesn't sound like EE or Bautista would be moved. Nor should they Edwin at the cleanup spot gives us the best chance of winning the world series. Jays should bring back the same lineup. Revere Donaldson Bautista Encarnacion Tulowitski Cola/Smoak Martin Travis Pillar Goins main if backup Pompey main of backup This is the best offense in baseball the scariest offense in baseball and there is no reason to change that
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 If someone will give us a controllable mid rotation pitcher + a prospect or two for either one of Edwin or Jose, I would take it and run and look to use the money saved on making up that 2 WAR difference elsewhere.

Also probably makes the defense better too.

What team is going to give that up that needs a DH and who EE will accept a trade to?

Lol I bet you'd trade Joey bats for Dickey or Hutch

Why can't we just be happy with two of the best hitters in the game? You will get your two prospects if we don't extend them.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 On a side note.....there is a chance that Henderson Alverez gets released due to injury ......MLB Traderumers" Right-hander Henderson Alvarez, who missed nearly all of the 2015 season with shoulder injuries that eventually required surgery, won’t be ready for Opening Day, according to Samson (via Jackson). The 25-year-old Alvarez was Miami’s Opening Day starter and has a no-hitter under his belt since coming to Miami by way of a trade with Toronto, but the Marlins aren’t even decided on whether or not they’ll tender him a contract, per Samson. MLBTR contributor Matt Swartz projected Alvarez to earn $4MM next season, and while that’s not an outrageous number, the team could conceivably cut ties if the belief is that Alvarez’s injuries will keep out for a significant portion of 2016. Would you sign him cheap this year but include a couple of team options, Free pick-up worth the risk in my opinion
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 You don't get better by taking a .900 ops bat out of the lineup.

Yes I would absolutely sign him. Huge injury risk with terrible mechanics - but he is a solid SP and his skills would play up on the slow turf. It would be a crime against their fanbase if the Marlins cut him instead of forking out $4M... so they probably will cut him.

Exactly. QO 's are worse case scenarios. For a mid rotation arm we give up our 3/4 mashers in a year we have a shot to contend?

I can see them cutting him loose. I would sign him
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Which people? We were all sitting here patiently waiting for the JPA + Sean Nolin announcement. MAYBE if the Mets were lucky, JPA + Sanchez. Fangraphs dummy
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Fangraphs dummy Well I'd assume that the spineless slug Dave Cameron wrote that article

SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Subtracting a 4 win player from the team and adding prospects isn't going to help us. To answer your question, yes, risking them walking and getting picks after they provide us 8 WAR in 2016 isn't the end of the world. Signing Heywood, and then trading JB for prospects would be great.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Signing Alvarez and letting him rehab would be a good move. Low risk. The Jays need as many SP options in the minors as possible so he'd be fine with me. Maybe being from the Jays org will help.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Signing Heywood, and then trading JB for prospects would be great. Heyward, and your giving up your late 1st rounder. Also probably around 200 million dollars. Sounds smart to me!
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Alvarez is just an expensive Aaron Sanchez with injury concerns.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Heyward, and your giving up your late 1st rounder. Also probably around 200 million dollars. Sounds smart to me! He'll probably be worth every penny
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Ian Kennedy might be a decent pickup depending on the cost. He was pretty good the last 2 years.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 (edited) He'll probably be worth every penny I'll bet on Joey Bats 1 year 14 million dollar contract being worth every penny instead. Edited November 3, 2015 by Frenchsoup
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Are there any studies on large players aging more quickly? Heyward's value revolves largely around defense. At 6-5, 250+ is it a concern that his defense will drop as he ages?

These are big boys, but you can only imagine that the more weight your putting on your lower body, the higher chance of injuries.

Yeah injuries is one thing but I am thinking foot speed declining and how that would affect Heyward's elite defense and good baserunning. If he loses that he gets mediocre very quickly bc his bat isn't the greatest.
