For real? That's pretty embarrassing. I hope the Jays don't do that if they bow out here."2015 AL East Champs" will suffice.

Why would you care what the Jays do? I thought you were a Dodgers fan.

The Blue Jays essentially had to make a choice.

We only have Bautista and Encarnacion for one more year. No one is going to blame them if they leave. They both signed pretty team friendly contracts, and committed to Toronto.

The window for us being competitive is essentially this year and next.

We could have either decided to go all-in, or we could have decided to trade away Bautista and EE to start the rebuilding process early.

The Price trade is terrible long term, but I think the Jays decided to go for it this year, when the AL East was pretty bad, except for the Yankees. At that point, they were probably thinking wildcard, and probably needed an ace to get us through.

Things turned out better than we thought, especially with Stroman returning early. But, potentially playing a wildcard game with Estrada/Dickey/Buehrle as our starter probably didn't sit too well with the Jays execs who paid a high price to maximize our chances to get through to the first round.

I don't understand why people keep ignoring the financial impact of the Price trade. David and all the acquisitions of Tulo, Revere, Lowe and Hawkins were key to the Jays making the playoffs. People are just looking at the loss of norris, and 2 mid level prospects.

Firstly Norris may or may not reach an elite level. Secondly and more importantly the playoff pool money going to the team is a big plus, the 600 to 700K fans attending in the regular season due to being in the playoff picture until the end of the season is a big plus, the doubling of tv viewership in the second half of the regular season is a massive plus and the merchandising sales have been through the roof. The TV advertising revenues Rogers charges next year is going to be significantly higher.

This wasn't just 2 months of price for 6 years of Norris. Without Price and the other moves we likely don't win the division. These moves have added 10s of millions of dollars of revenue to the team.

The org will be fine moving forward. We've got some young pieces to move forward with and we will have lots of money to decide what to do. AA has also shown that he's capable of rebuilding farm systems pretty quickly. And as you said, those moves hot us in to the Top 8 of attendance this year. I imagine that there will be some carry over effect next year.

I think we have to see the team actually reinvest this money before I buy the 'money in = more salary' argument, especially with Shapiro now in charge. Would you be surprised if Rogers simply pocketed the money and marginally increased the payroll?

I completely agree, we're not the Phillies and we can't be the cubs or Astros. We have our own unique circumstances with the yankees and red sox being in the same division and being top 5 payroll teams and with us having a publicly traded company as it's owner. We are the Jays and no one else. We have Saunders, Revere and Donaldson as guys with a few years of control. We have Sanchez, stroman, Pillar, Osuna, Pompey, alford travis etc as young guys with a lot of control at low dollars. We have vets signed long term. We have dollars coming available to spend. We are set up well today and for the mid term as well.

Haha nice. Congrats on their success this year. :)

Thanks. It's been a painful stretch, but this year has made it all worth it. The roller coaster ride of the die hard fan.

Are you really a Mets fan?? One of my friends is a crazy Mets fan. I spent the last couple of days explaining the pain of being a Blue Jays fan.

He's laughing his ass off at the Dickey trade. We went back and looked at the Olerud trade. Turns out that one was about 18-0 in WAR the following 3 years. 35-0 including Olerud's Seattle/NYY/Red Sox years.

We figued the over/under on the eventual return on the Dickey Trade is about 70-5 WAR.

We looked at some historical WAR numbers. Turns out John Olerud 1993 is the second best Jays position player season ever (after Donaldson), and Olerud 1998 is the second best Mets season (after one of Wright's).

I told him this. If Syndergaard blows up with a lead, it's OK. You look forward to the next 6 years of Syndergard. If David Price blows up...

At the end of our discussion he felt really bad for me, and tried to convince me to become a Mets fan.

I do like the Mets this year and going forward though.

OK... maybe you are just kidding around. Mets would be a great one to follow though if you are looking for an organization that does it the right way.

I just found out they took Conforto 10th in 2014 and he is allready a step away from the World series... looks like a great hitting prospect. We took Hoffman and turned him 2 other prospect and 50 million into Tulo.

I know this is the price you paid but it is still hard. David Price was the best pitcher available on the market and the price was steep. Without Price we are likely fighting for the second wild card. Price choking in the playoffs and honestly did not see I do care about previous years because he was looking like the best pitcher in the AL. I really against trading top pitching prospect for rental players because it can send a franchise back. Look at the Mets pitching staff they could go the the World Series multiple times with that young talent staff. Its hurts because I feel cheated by the way David Price is pitching.

Some teams would be stupid enough to give him a ten year 200 million dollar deal. In the regular season he is the best pitcher in the AL in the post season he struggles. Maybe in the minor league he did not experience enough teaching to deal with pressure situations. Maybe he did not spend enough time in the minor leagues and was rushed to the big leagues because he was the number 1 pick. Maybe he was always the best pitcher and success always came easy for him and when things do not go his way he buckles under the pressure. People never doubted his abilities and has always received praise.

Edit Detroit. Sorry

Mm'Kay.

I'm pretty sure the banner would say "ALDS Champs," not "ACLS appearance" lol.

huhhh??? Whut the f*** are we suppose to talk about here?? Conforto was a good pick by the Mets. Hoffman from what I hear wasn't. All summer people were complaining about his strikeout rate. Then he turned to Tulo.

Is it wrong to point out that the Mets were really succuessful with that pick?? Is it wrong to point out the Mets are doing a great job developing young players and pitchers??

So Daniel Norris has cancer wow. Prayers to him.

I assume the Jays and the Tigers both knew about this... and if so that would indicate it is a fairly benign form of cancer. Tigers aren't going to trade for a guy who is going to be facing a life threatening illness, Jays would be asses to trade a guy under those conditions. It says in his post that the doctors let him pitch the rest of the season. So hopefully it is very curable.

Edit: by definition cancer isn't benign... but some types respond to treatment and/or grow and spread slowly enough that they can be treated. Anyone with medical knowledge please fill us in. Hoping for the best for Norris.

Trading syndergaard for 3 mediocre years of dicky is much worse. At least price got us into the playoffs.

Don't forget d'Arnaud! If healthy he could very well put up a 4+ win season next year.

Dickey pitched great in the second half as well...

Obviously the trade was terrible but it has already been said a billion times on this forum.

I love how people complain so much about this trade but don't realize just how great the Donaldson and Travis trades were.

Pretty sure everyone realizes how great the Donaldson trade was.

The Donaldson trade (so far) has been around equal in its awesomeness to the Dickey trade shittiness. Travis was definitely a good one although I want to see more of him obviously.
