Interestingly nowhere to be seen in the Law top 60 list were Simeon Woods Richardson, Austin Martin or Nate Pearson.

Man, he's turning out to be a waste of a 5th overall pick. Glad Shatkins sold high.

Tiedemann or Barreira?

Well Tiedemann would’ve gone top 5 in this draft so you have to say him

Barrierra when he got drafted is a much better prospect than Tiedemann was when he got drafted. Tiedemann was a very raw kid who no real advanced training methods who saw big and immediate gains when he started training with the Jays advanced pitching lab.

Evidently Tiedemann was the better prospect, people just didn't see it

Had he shown the velocity pre-draft, there's no telling where Tiedemann would've gone.

Hmm I dont see it. Tiedemann was 90-93 with a solid change and not much of a slider, thats pretty s***** compared to Barrierra who is already 94-97 with a 2 solid secondaries. By all accounts Tiedemann really took off once he got to the pitching lab in Dunedn.

Velocity is very trainable these days. It's not just a random thing that happens when someone has an increase - identifying which players would benefit from velo training is part of the puzzle

Yes i agree but still bet the Jays didnt predict that he would gain >5mph AND see both his changeup and slider become plus pitches, atleast not this quickly. And of course there is still the risk that the training never really worked with Tiedemann and his stuff stays the same or gets worse. Barrierra just comes pre packaged with better stuff from day one.

Barriera isn't supposed to have a lot of remaining projection, but I'm still curious to see how he responds to a professional strength and nutrition program. The stuff already sounds top notch but even squeezing out a little more from him would be tremendous.

I agree.

Maybe that 94-97 becomes 96-99 and his secondaries become even more polished. That seems more predictable with our performance centre than the otherworldly improvement than Teidemann had.

Yeah Barriera already has premium stuff straight out of high school, but even incremental improvements would be huge for a player this talented.

Absolutely, and it seems a higher likelihood of happening as well. He's a really exciting prospect.

Most first rounders are... :P

Jays have drafted well, I'm on board with a lot of these young guys.

5) Yosver Zulueta

6) Orelvis Martinez

Yes, yes, I know. It's the worst list you've ever seen. Don't @ me.

The thing with this list is, that it's just going to be really hard for Tiedemann to be better than Moreno. By all accounts from every prospect list and report there is the floor on Moreno is just really solidly high even if he never figures out significant power cause his bat to ball ability is solid. And getting that from an athletic catcher? He's likely to be solid defensively so those two things just give him a really good (but not guaranteed because no one is) shot at being a baseline 3 WAR catcher. And if he gets some power and hits well, you might see seasons like Russel Martin had.

Tiedemann has projections as a mid rotation starter and maybe a bit more, which is great, but that's not likely to produce seasons with value like Moreno could. And not with the same kind of likelihood. He's a pitcher and floor is always a whole lot lower potentially.

21 year old left handed SP Cooper Benson continues to cruise through A ball since his return from TJS.

23.1 IP - 15.81 K/9 - 2.31 BB/9 - 1.54 ERA - 2.05 FIP - 1.80 xFIP

Leads all Jays minor league pitchers in K-rate and xFIP

When he was drafted he was described as having low 90's FB, not sure if he's had an uptick since his surgery and after spending time in the lab at Dunedin

I was going to give Benson a shout out tonight but I ran a search for him in this thread and saw that the last time he was brought up, someone mentioned his low velocity.

He definitely has the best xFIP in the entire Blue Jays system.

Could be something? Latest from BA...

Drafted in the 17th round (512th overall) by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2021 (signed for $125,000)

Benson was off to an outstanding start in 2021 as the Sun Devils’ Friday night starter, pitching seven scoreless innings over two starts before becoming one of three ASU pitchers needing Tommy John surgery. Prior to the injury, Benson stood out for his plus control and command of a fastball sitting 86-89 mph, touching 90. His best secondary pitch is an average changeup, and he rounds out his repertoire with a below-average, slurvy breaking ball. The stuff alone isn’t flashy, but everything plays up because of his pitchability and command.

Yeah the command guys always carve up the low minors because they’re almost never pitching from behind. Hopefully an uptick in velocity happens as I just cannot see an 86-89 fastball playing in MLB for very long regardless of his command unless he’s able to throw the entire kitchen sink along with it.

But he is a lefty, so that’s nice.

Irv Carter with his best outing of the season: 5IP, 1H, 1BB, 5K.

Hes gonna get traded to the Dodgers for Ross Stripling 3.0 in a couple of years.
