jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I'm assuming this is the correct thread to talk about this, I just wanted to get some of your opinions. Although the 2020 MLB Draft is a long ways away, and a lot can change in 10 months. Who's your top 5? Who do you feel like isn't getting the respect they deserve in the rankings? Who do you realistically see the Jays pursuing? I'm trying to follow the 2020 draft a bit more closely this year as it appears we will have a top 5 pick.

BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I’m hearing a couple names, it’s hard to pinpoint now, 10 months away from the draft. But for top 10, names may include: Arms: Emerson Hancock, Cole Wilcox, Asa Lacy, JT Ginn, Jared Kelley, Mick Abel, Timmy Manning Bats: Spencer Torkelson, Austin Martin, Casey Martin, Patrick Bailey, Blaze Jordan, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Dylan Crews, Austin Hendrick, Drew Romo

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I know it is only one start but I don't see what Atkins saw in Kay. He has a very average fastball that catches way too much of the plate, a very slurvey curve that kind of just floats over the plate instead of having any bite. Lacks command on top of that. I really hope he improves but there just wasn't much there tonight to get excited about. Looked like an org guy up there pitching Sounds like he really just wanted Woods-Richardson and tried to get the highest prospect he could get on top of that. He has forgot to even mention Kay in a lot of his interviews since the trade and is drooling of SWR.

I'm clearly no draft expect, but I've heard/read that the 2020 Draft is very strong.
Farm Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 The 3-0 sweep vs the Royals was unfortunate
Ray Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 The 3-0 sweep vs the Royals was unfortunate I wouldn’t mind the higher draft pick and pool, but I’d also like our future core pieces to not look like s*** and win some games down the stretch. And this regime has been going on 4 years of being able to draft well no matter where they’ve picked. The draft is the least of our concerns.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Next years draft is deep but I don't really care if they win or lose just can't stand watching them get 1 hit every other night.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 The Jays pitching staff is so incredibly bad. We have ran into a lot of s*** teams lately. The steam rolling is coming.

Doesn't the pool exponentially increase for the top few picks? Would have rather swept the Astros instead then!

We know our pitching sucks, we don't know if our young hitters can handle major league pitching. If we see that the next gen of hitters can mash we can be more confident that the team might be good when the Pearsons/Pardihno's etc are ready.

Ray Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Aggressive assignment for SWR. I’ve said it already, but him doing well in High-A at his age could’ve led to him becoming a pretty untouchable prospect. I haven’t heard Atkins be this excited about a prospect since Nate Pearson

Stoneyen Verified Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 I've seen a lot of posts about him lately but wow Is Gabriel Moreno having an unbelievable year in A. Best season for a 19 year catcher in A ball in the last 10 years. Great peripherals, normal BABIP, athletic body (not gonna get the Kirk treatment from scouts). The hype train may be leaving the station soon

43211234 Verified Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 The Dunedin Blue Jays are just starting their game in Fort Myers. They must be pretty desperate to get this one in if the first pitch was at around 10:30pm local time.

Yeah seriously now that the young kids are up, I want to win as much as possible. We're going to lose a ton of games anyway with the AL East and our s*** pitching staff, but I'll take the W's when they are there.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 Not sure this has been posted yet, but this could explain Atkins' love for Fisher. I like what I read. https://maxssportingstudio.com/2019/08/01/fishing-for-the-most-underrated-prospect-dealt-at-the-deadline/
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 Nate Pearson was mic'd up for the Futures game and it's interesting to hear him talk briefly about his stuff and how he went to the driveline guys to improve his pitches.

We should send all of our top pitching prospects there each offseason. Could add some mphs on a bunch of guys' FBs and improve the spin rate on all breaking balls. Guys like Foley, Wag, Borucki, Thornton could do well with that. Then there's guys like Pardinho or Murray who could become animals if they sat mid 90s instead of low 90s.
