No. But I do think they're going overboard with the bubble wrap on Pearson. I get limiting his workload, but I do think this is excessive.

Pearson pitched 33 innings in 2016 in college, 20 innings in 2017, 22 innings in 2018 (including AFL) and he's already up to 47.2 in 2019.

The only risk with this guy is injury. If they dont limit the innings now then they will have to shut him down in July so that they dont end up increasing his innings by more than 200%

There’s an interesting article on the athletic about how the Texas rangers scrapped their pitcher usage system where they shut down draftees. It turned out to be counter productive.

There’s just so much we don’t know about how to approach pitcher usage it seems.

Bo went 4 of 5 today with a double and Alford 2 of 5 with a triple.

Things are looking rosier recently and I’m liking it.

The Verducci effect has been disproven repeatedly over the better part of a decade. The development team might be using different metrics to justify shutting Pearson down, but a pure innings increase is a poor predictor of future injury.

Or he might actually be hurt/sore.

To each their own, but The Athletic is the absolute creamiest of the crop when it comes to sports articles. They only just recently launched their podcasts platform, so expect that to improve significantly in the near future.

And it's supremely inexpensive to boot.

I concur. I signed up when they had a promotion in December, and I have been very happy with the quality of articles from a wide range of authors. I have no regrets, and I will definitely renew.

From a posted article or tweet, it would make sense.

Not sure how to link from Reddit app but the guy said he heard it on baseball central. Mild groin strain.

Pearsons "undisclosed injury" sounds like it's just innings management. There's no real reason to believe that there's an actual injury here, based on these quotes.

"It's all about looking out for the best for me," he told MiLB.com on June 9 about the innings limit. "They want me to be able to go deep into games late in the season, so right now we have to limit my innings so I can do that in the back half of the season. It's just something that I have to get through now, and I really don't mind it.

"Sometimes when I get my two innings, I get into that rhythm I know I was in today and I really want to go back out, but they tell me I'm done and take the ball from me. It's kind of frustrating, but it's all fun. It's still a game."

Not buying it!

BlueRocky and I recorded a prospect podcast yesterday. This idea was on a whim and was spawned from a botched recording from earlier this week where Laika, BR, and I recorded a shorthanded episode of Radio Scouts Podcast that went in the trash thanks to yours truly f***ing up the recording.

Not sure yet if this will just be a one-off special or a regular feature at the website, but we're happy to have new content for you all this week.

We have a brief and way-too-early discussion about the 2020 draft and who the Jays should pick if they end up with a top 5 selection, which leads into some talk about the sweeping changes that the current regime has brought to the organization from the ground up. Other subjects include Alejandro Kirk, Josh Winckowski, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (yeah, he's no longer a prospect), Hector Perez, potential returns on a Ken Giles trade, Bo Bichette, and Cavan Biggio.

Enjoy!

We covered a lot of prospect stuff for your listening pleasure for anyone interested in that.

This episode is complimentary to the regular weekly Radioscouts podcast.

Had some technical difficulties with this weeks original recording (Most sincere apologies to Nick, who gave over an hour of his time). But if Mike wasn’t on in the first place this week’s episode wouldn’t have any chance of happening (RIP thunderstorms).

Enjoy.

So why is Bo Bichette a lock to get called up but Vlad was held down all year last year? Not saying either is right or wrong I'm just wondering what the reasoning is.

Yeah, not sure why we wouldn't want an extra year of Bichette by waiting until next April, rather than letting him get a few AB's in a 100 loss season now. It sucks for Bo and the fans, I'd rather have him up ASAP, but I wouldn't get that logic either. Unless Shatkins is sure they can extend Bo long term while Vlad is probably a lock to test free agency.

The decision making is certainly a bit curious. Holding Vlad down last year is arguable since he was still 19.

Bichette would be 21 if called up and much more polished defensively. Vlad also had a month of AAA while Bichette should be closing on two or three months of AAA before he gets called up.

Either way we have 7 years of control if you include 2019. Who knows what will happen after CBA changes.

Bichette played himself onto the team if his spring training performance actually had any chance of putting him in the bigs. Bo just came off a full season of AA and is 21.

Vlad was 19, didn't participate in the full big league spring, had 48 games played above Lansing in his career, and missed a month in the second half of 2018 with an injury.

I don't see how the situations are closely comparable.

Four Fisher Cats named to the Eastern League All Star team:

Forrest Wall

Santiago Espinal

Nash Knight

Zach Logue

A couple more could’ve made the team but were either snubbed, promoted, not enough games, reworking his “illegal” delivery and got hammered, or dealing with injuries like Pearson, Murphy, Sopko, Diaz, Adams (A+ AS)

Well well well...A Justin Maese sighting.

1 inning for the GCL Blue Jays today. 1K. 0's everywhere else.

18 yr old #1 Wander Franco promoted to HiA Charlotte Stone Crabs. 2/3 with a BB and SB in his debut.

I'm hoping TB works out a long-term contract with him, because if they don't we probably don't see him in the majors until mid-April of 2021. He's probably good enough to contribute next year at 19.

I’m hoping the opposite then. I’d rather not see him til 2021 because f*** the rays.
