Why hasn't anyone developed some kind of titanium or carbon lightweight shielding for batters gloves? If done right I can't imagine they would impede a players swing, hand angle or wrist movement.

Lansing update:

Kirk and Groshans continued their torrid assault on the Midwest League, while Otto Lopez had an uncharacteristically unproductive game - hey, it happens.

Alejandro Kirk: 2-5, 2 R, BB, K

Jordan Groshans: 2-5, 2 2B, R, 2 RBI, BB, K

Otto Lopez: 0-6, RBI, 3 K

Shoutouts to Reggie Pruitt and DJ Neal for doing stuff.

Reggie Pruitt: 3-5, 2B, 2 R, BB

DJ Neal: 2-5, 2 HR, 3 R, 2 K

Also, in case you're late to the party, Joey Murray is an actual thing.

Joey Murray: 6 2/3 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 10 K, 98 P-64S

That gives him a grand total of 29 K and 8 BB in 20 2/3 IP this season. I've read that he tops out at, like, 89-90 MPH, but he's highly deceptive - hitters have a hard time seeing the ball out of his hand. Invisi-ball for the win!

Final note: Hagen Danner kept his perfect XBH season alive with a double today. He has 7 hits this season - 2 doubles, a triple, and 4 home runs. He's hitting a paltry .152.

Small sample, but Anthony Alford is not handling AAA well so far.

.167/.231/.354

3BB

20K, 38.5% strikeout rate.

Still early but yes that’s a bad sign, especially since he wasn’t good in AAA last season either. The plate discipline that made him such an intriguing prospect two years ago is gone. Hopefully he turns things around.

#BlueJays No. 2 prospect Bo Bichette reportedly has a broken left hand after being hit by a pitch in last night's @BuffaloBisons game. Bichette is #MLB's No. 10 overall prospect

That's a year of development lost. Brutal for him and the organization. Oh well, he's still young.

?? Even Brett Lawrie managed to come back in 6 weeks from a broken hand. I remember Joe Carter got one in the middle of Spring Training one year, and was back by opening day to make lots and lots of outs. Shawn Green broke his hand and managed to avoid the disabled list in 1999.

Of course I am sure there are all kinds of different types and severity of broken hands... I guess we need to wait and see exactly how broken, whether surgery is needed and what the recovery time will be.

Lyle Overbay got hit on the hand, it broke and he was never quite the same hitter afterwards (that's my recollection, anyway).

I believe it’s the hamate bone, if broken, which would be most concerning as it takes a while to regain bat speed/power.

Hinsky, Overbay, Alford are all cases where it appeared to have a significant impact.

It doesn't look like the hamate bone which is closer to the wrist area. Might be some broken fingers, hard to tell from the video where he's hit.

He broke his second metacarpal. For a layman, that is the bottom segment of your index finger.

Could have been a lot worse. Depending on the severity, he might only lose a month or so.

Dwight Smith Junior. Oops. Maybe we had a hitting OF prospect after all. But we kept Pompey instead. Let's see how that shakes out.

Looks like he is the real deal. Now with 200 at bats.

Really disappointed about this considering we are giving Brito playing time
