What? Why? I don't think he's a 3B, but spending 3 extra months playing 3B twice a week instead of 5 times isn't going to meaningfully change his outlook at the position.

I disagree.

Are you drunk right now or something? Because suggesting that the team call him up for meaningless baseball in September and then make up the service time by optioning him for two weeks in 2019, 2020, and 2021 is one of the dumbest things I've ever read on this forum.

That’s not quite what I said - I said that 30 days service time shouldn’t be too onerous to reclaim over a 5/6 year period if it’s still an issue by then.

Any plan that involves sending an elite bat back down to the minors, for any period of time, is not a good plan.

Hey guys, I came up with a brilliant idea: we could never call up Vlad and then lose him in the rule 5 draft! That way, we'd preserve his service time indefinitely.

There really are two financial options for a Vlad callup. Next week (or any time in the next month or so) after the Super two deadline. Or at day 171 next year.

We free up a spot at DH. Keep him playing 3B at practice. He is the DH, and occasional 3B. If a Donaldson trade or injury happens we see what he has at 3B. If not, the team knows it anyway.

And sending down a player with the only consideration being preserving service time will begin a MLBPA grievance and could even cost the team the player. The reason they can do it with players prior to their time on the 40 man is that they are not in the union yet. It's just a stupid idea.

Yeah, this seems completely obvious to me.

I think you forgot the option where we could call him up in September and then send him down two days per year for the next ten years.

Here is what we really should do...sign Vladito to an extension, put Donaldson at DH...maybe lowering hid value and then resign him for cheap...as a DH going forward lol

From BA

1. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., 3B, Blue Jays

Team: Double-A New Hampshire (Eastern)

Age: 19

Why He’s Here: .516/.484/1.037 (11-for-27), 6 R, 2 2B, 5 HR, 10 RBIs, 4 BB, 4 SO, 1-for-2 SB

The Scoop: If Vlad Jr. were to strike out in his next 50 consecutive plate appearances, he would still be hitting .317/.368/.525 on the year. Not that there’s any chance of that happening. Heck, he might not even strike out 50 times the rest of the season. That’s just how ridiculous of a season Guerrero is having, as Eastern League pitchers have yet to expose any offensive holes of the most dangerous hitter in the minors. Including an opposite-field, walk-off dinger in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday, Guerrero is hitting a bonkers .421/.472/.697. (BB)

That's insanity... cannot wait to see this kid rip it up at the MLB level soon.

2 other Jays on the Hot Shhet again after Vlad's second straight #1 ranking

9. Cavan Biggio, 2B, Blue Jays

Team: Double-A New Hampshire (Eastern)

Age: 23

Why He’s Here: 320/.500/.640 (8-for-25), 4 R, 2 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBIs, 9 BB, 8 SO, 1-for-3 on SBs.

The Scoop: Biggio’s 12 home runs in just 38 games has to rank as one of the biggest surprises of the 2018 minor league season. He hit 15 in three seasons at Notre Dame and was much more of a on-base machine than a power threat. But Biggio has junked the stance he used at Notre Dame. When he was there, he started with his hands far above his head in a stance that would not look out of place in the NPB. Instead, he starts with his hands set at shoulder level. The simplified stance has shortened Biggio’s bat path significantly and he also does a better job of hitting the ball in the air, which has paid off with newfound power. (JJ)

12. Kevin Smith, SS/3B, Blue Jays

Team: low Class A Lansing (Midwest)

Age: 21

Why He’s Here: .318/.464/.773 (7-for-22), 7 R, 1 2B, 3 HR, 9 RBIs, 5 BB, 5 SO, 0-for-1 SB

The Scoop: While Vlad Jr. rightfully dominates the headlines, the Blue Jays have two prospects—Cavan Biggio and Kevin Smith—whose stocks are soaring quickly. A fifth-round pick out of Maryland last year, Smith is an excellent defender (he’s splitting time between shortstop and third base because Lansing also has shortstop Kevin Vicuna) who showed promising power last year, but it came with swing-and-miss risk. He’s altered his swing path, staying on plane longer with the baseball, which has result in more contact while retaining his power, with more extra-base hits (29) than strikeouts (24). (BB)

After a so so start to an aggressive posting to AA by the Dodgers, 19 yr old Keibert Ruiz is trending up with a wrc+ of 100 and rising, his 6th HR today, and a 7.5% K rate. Expect a top 25 mid season ranking.

I don’t think top-25 is happening by mid season Jimbo

Jim, no one cares about your fantasy prospects. If you want to brag about your farm, keep it in OT.

Having the second best farm in BORED is something to be proud of.

Good for 137 wRC+. Really bizarre to have those K and BB rates with basically zero power.

Tellez has been hitting lately.

Still waiting for power though. He hit a HR yesterday but overall his power numbers are nearly non-existent.

.093 ISO with only 6 extra base hits on the season so far. Yet... his K rate is slightly down and walk rate is up over last year ... but without the power he's not a useful player.
