John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 Incentive to succeed. Seems like the teams teach about nutrition, but don't pay for the food. Perhaps the thinking is the players that don't have the drive to succeed, who will invest in proper nutrition, etc, will fail anyway. So cut the losses. It's probably moreso a balance of investment to reward ratio. On any given minor league team there might be .... what 1 or 2 guys that MIGHT ever make it vs the other 30+ or so guys that won't. For a team to put out the kind of money to support the entire team's players health and wellness (a team that they don't even own) would seem like a lot of sunk cost. At least, that's probably part of their argument... imo it's crazy to seemingly not give a rats ass about anything other than coaching.

This wouldn't happen to be the same Dennis Santana, would it? Edited April 23, 2018 by P2F
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 Juan Soto is 2/3 with a triple, HR, and walk, and is now slashing 396/515/887 Promote this man. The Nationals have promoted top prospect Juan Soto to high-A Potomac. Soto could have opened the season in the Carolina League, but the Nationals let him return to Hagerstown after he was hurt after 23 games there last year. He ended up hitting .373/.486/.814 with five homers in 59 at-bats.

I don't understand why hes still in AAA. Rays are clearly tanking the season. If I was his agent I would foaming at the mouth. He should have debuted last year.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Like he threw a no hitter, but that doesn't really matter..3K's and 2 BB
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Jesus Luzardo was called up to AA already, just 20 years old.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 The Rays are an awful org. What a 180 degree turn from just 3 years ago So many people said there were enough smart people remaining after Friedman left for the Dodgers that they'd be OK, but I was always skeptical
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 (edited) Keibert Ruiz aggressively placed in AA to start the season at 19 yrs old, and starting to heat up. 11.7% K rate so far is excellent. Known for his defense at catcher, the bat has been an impressive surprise. Edited April 24, 2018 by Jimcanuck
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Biggio with another HR last night. Samad Taylor with 3 SBs.

LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 The Jays are the favourite to sign 16 year old SS Orelvis Martinez the #4 overall international prospect. Here is his scouting profile: Orelvis Martinez | Rank: 4 Hometown: Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic Position: SS Age: 16 DOB: 11/19/2001 Bats: R Throws: R Height: 6'1" Weight: 188 lb.Watch Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 60 | Run: 50 | Arm: 55 | Field: 55 Some scouts look at Martinez and see Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre at the same age. Like the young Beltre, Martinez is a hard-hitting infielder with a good projectable body and a strong arm. The infielder runs a 6.8-7.1-second 60-yard timed run and will likely end up as an average runner. It is his bat, arm and power that's expected to carry him through the Minor League ranks and to the big leagues one day. At the plate, Martinez has a good rhythm and a short, compact swing with plus bat speed. He has a chance to be an above-average hitter with above-average power. There's still some room to grow and get stronger, which leads some evaluators to think Martinez will eventually move from shortstop to third base and still develop into an above-average defender. He's been praised for his solid actions on defense and good body control. Martinez is from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and trains with Ruddy Santini. The Blue Jays are the favorite to sign the young infielder.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Orelvis Martinez sounds like a good target to me

Their only advantage was that they were smarter than everyone else, but now every team uses the same information they're using, so they can't compete on their s***** payroll.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 https://www.fangraphs.com/tht/data-impossible-minor-league-strike-zone-part-2/ Long but interesting read.
metafour Verified Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 The decision to take Moniak over Puk and Senzel has been a puzzling one from the moment that they made the selection. It was such an obviously absurd pick right from the start. A slap hitting high-schooler with the pretense that he should be able to stick in CF...what could go wrong? Its not like he was even a burner on the basepaths either. A profile like that puts so much pressure on the hit tool, because unless he's an MLB .300+ hitter there are no other tools there to justify a #1 overall selection.
