I have no idea what Bichette's present hit tool is, but this is just bad/lazy analysis.

 

What's puzzling is why did they have him ranked 9th with an FV of 40? Longenhagen's toes were stepped on, imo. He loves Bichette.

Scouting Summary

Bichette was a well-known prospect in high school due to his bloodlines (father Dante and older brother, Yankees first-rounder Dante Jr.), his big tools (plus raw power), and his loud, max-effort swing. Many teams didn’t take him seriously as a top-two-rounds prospect, partly souring after his brother busted with a similar swing. That said, Bo has rare bat and body control along with good enough pitch selection to make his approach work, something his older brother did not. Bichette is playing shortstop now and likely will not at higher levels, with second base the most likely fit, but he has the tools to play any corner position and his bat profiles anywhere.

I think Bo would easily hit .260-.270 if brought up right now. He hit a laser beam oppo shot off Felipe Rivero and that dude is nasty.

If he goes bonkers this year, it might be a 45 or 50 at the end of the year, but I'd expect it to be more like 40, then around 50 in late 2019 or 2020

 

I understand the current 30 number because of the whole high A thing, they rarely give out current grades any higher than 30 for high A hitters no matter what they've done. I just don't understand the future 50

Yeah that's a glib oversimplification. The reasons for Bichette being in the minors have nothing to do with that particular tool, of all things.

I've always interpreted Kiley as being more of a smart-ass than a salty ****. I think he's jocular enough to support that thought.

 

With that out of the way, that analysis of Bo is way too generalized.

I believe we discussed at length last year that Bo is not just your run of the mill high babip contact hitter. He's smashing the ball with authority at a ridiculously young age. He's not just waving the magic wand like Alcides Escobar
