Steamer projects Jansen as slashing .246/.306/.366 at the big league level this year. If he we average defensively he'd probably be an ok backup C as is.

But C generally develop slowly. I don't know much about his swing or why he's not hitting for much power but Catchers take forever to develop with not only the glove but the bat too. He's a pretty big guy, there's a good chance we see more power from him in coming years.

Unless you're Willson Contreras, who became a beast defensive C basically overnight.

Just look at the batted ball data.

He was applauded for his plate discipline + raw pop going back to his first seasons in 2013 and 2014, 2014 Bluefield season being the one where he put up a .200+ ISO. He remained a flyball oriented guy going into 2015 and 2016 but he had injuries derail those seasons, which could have also effected his in game power. Then this season his approach changed dramatically to a more line drive/spray hitter.

Maybe his change in approach has allowed his hit tool to play up, and he'll grow into his raw power as he gets older. Or maybe he's just getting lucky with his groundballs going for hits!

Are many flyballs incorrectly marked as infield flies by minor league scorers? It seems like everyone, regardless of profile is running out 20+ IFBB percentages in the minors, even Mike Trout was way above that from the data that we have available from his MiLB days. I'm assuming they sometimes mark can-of-corn flyballs in the shallow outfield as infield flies or something of that sort.

I could understand young hitters running high IFBB rates in the low minors as they're still in the very early levels of their development, but I can't see elite batted ball types having those kind of numbers at AA and AAA.

Will Vlad Jr and Bo Bichette likely both make it to AA New Hampshire next year??

If so my son and I plan to go watch a game or two there

Foregone conclusion. Heck, one or both of them could start the year in AA.

The actual question is will one of them sniff AAA.

The DREAM is - do we get an MLB cameo in 2018? It's not impossible. Maybe it is with Shatkins though.

At their current pace they'll almost certainly make it to AA next year, if not start there altogether. They haven't really been displaying the power output of their two previous levels, but that's to be expected given that they're not even at 100 PA at Dunedin, and with their walk and contact rates it might even be of no concern whatsoever.

Anyone been to a Fishercats game before? Place looks Allright. And it's only a 6 hour drive for me from here.

I've been to a bunch, it's a really nice park in a cool city. Summer nighttime games are always a treat.

Bichette has to be the front runner for Minor League Player of the Year right now. Slashing .384/.446/.591 with 11 HR and nearly 20 SB through 91 games. Absurd numbers for a 19 year old. He's ranked 30 right now according to MLB.com and 44 according to Baseball-America. He might be Top 15-20 with all the graduations next season and his stock rising so much.

I also wonder if Vlad is #1 in any lists next season. He's #2 only behind Moncada according to Baseball-America. I know prospect rankings are subjective, but it'd be nice to have a Blue Jay ranked as the #1 prospect for the first time.

Ryan McMahon and Ronald Acuna will give him a run for his money, but Bo has to be in serious consideration.

Was Delgado not a number 1?

Looks like it's Acuna's award to lose really. For anyone thinking Bichette is having and amazing year (and he is), Acuna is the same age and in AAA hitting like a beast.

To say Bichette is in the conversation is like saying there's two other Rookies that merit consideration for AL ROY alongside Judge.

Yes, he's in the conversation... but it's a pretty short one. And no, this isn't a criticism of Bichette, Acuna is just on another planet

Delgado got as high as #5 on Baseball-America.

Fair point on Acuna. Bichette is having a great sesaon, but Acuna is having a similar season in higher levels so it'll more than likely go to him.

Anyone know anything about Jol Concepcion's stuff?

I know he was signed last year when the Jays were under penalties after splurging on Guerrero, and that he's tall with a projectable body, 18 and throwing pretty well in the GCL.

Except Acuna is likely 23 because all South Americans ******** their ages.

Thanks. I'm kind of excited about Teoscar Hernandez. He kind of has a similar profile to the 2015-2016 version of Melvin Upton which isn't half bad. Above average defense and base running and a good enough bat to warrant playing time. Will he hit more like the 2015 version (109 wRC+ or the 2016 version (84 wRC+) though? The difference between a 4th OF and an above average starter.

Hopefully without the swing and miss.

I'll be going to a couple of games also, but in Erie when they play the Seadogs....less than 2 hours from Niagara. Plan on seeing the current New Hampshire team next weekend in Erie. Now that's a great ballpark just minutes from Lake Erie.

Bo and Vlad facing Odorizzi and Jose De Leon tonight...good challenge

Jose Siri's 39-game hit streak is in jeopardy of coming to an end. He just walked, and is 0-3 on the night so far. The game is in the bottom of the 8th, with his team trailing 4-1.

Edit: The streak is over, but it was fun while it lasted. He broke the previous MWL record of 35 games.

Bichette has out better A+ ball numbers this year.

Interesting to see the two routes each took. I mean seeing them in person is going to be different than just looking at the stats for promotion but Bo had/has much better A ball number and they've been more patient with him and Acuna is fast tracked. Would have been interesting to see how Bo handled quicker promotions since nothing has slowed him down yet.

Sounds like they're preparing to stretch him into a starter, just unclear whether he'll be sent to the minors to do so.

I was sad to let go of Castro, so much potential to give up so quickly on him, I guess they figured his stock was at it's peak at the time.

True, but Acuna started the year there, and his numbers have improved at each step up. Had Bichette already taken a similar path at the same age, the comparison would be more apples to apples, but right now Acuna has already proven himself at AAA and AA, Bichette hasn't.

Whether it's a product of circumstance or not, Acuna is having a far better year. Cant really hold it against Acuna that hes been promoted faster.

I really don't agree with "having a far better year". It's definitely debatable and not really comparable.
