From Marc Hulet at FanGraphs:

Edward Olivares, OF, Blue Jays: It’s time to start talking about Olivares – who has been greatly overshadowed by teammates Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette, two of the top prospects in the game. The lesser known prospect appeared in just 15 games in 2016 due to injury and has made up for lost time in ’17. He’s slugged 11 home runs (fourth in the league) with 14 doubles and eight triples. Olivares, 21, has also successfully stolen 14 bases in 19 tries and is well on his way to a 20-20 season in his first full year. The only real negative to his game so far is the 3.9% walk rate. Defensively, he can play all three outfield positions. Look for him to get a taste of high-A ball before the year is out.

Bugs the s*** out of me when content like this just regurgitates the stats. There is basically no new information. I WANT GRADES

I hear you. Somehow or another, Marc Hulet has made a career at FanGraphs out of regurgitating prospect results.

Still, it's nice to see Olivares get some coverage.

Doug sat down with Gil Kim and has updates. Bo and Vladdy promotion talk.

Bo and Vladdy Jr

As fans, we check out the MiLB box scores every morning to see how our favourite prospects fared. Each promotion up the ladder brings them one step closer to the Major Leagues, where we can see them live and in person. If there's one question I've been asked most often lateley, it has to be, "when are Bo and/or Vladdy Jr getting promoted?"

It's understandable that we want to catch a glimpse of players who for the most part have been only names on a webpage. It's just as understandable that MLB teams want to stick to the plan for their top prospects.

Kim was non-commital about when (or if) the two Lansing sluggers will get promoted. All minor league prospects have a skill set that they're working on, and it's no big secret that the High Performance department has been working on agility and strength on the defensive side of the ball with both prospects. Bichette, in particular, has been working on first-step quickness, working with Lansing Manager Cesar Martin and Hitting Coach Donnie Murphy on fielding countless groundballs. Guerrero, for his part, is working on his defensive game, too, trying to become quicker at fielding slow rollers, and improving his overall range at 3rd. Both are learning how to play every day, to prepare for games, and how to recover from them afterwards. As much as we want this to be a fast process, sometimes it isn't. Both players are very age-appropriate for Low A ball, and Kim's philosophy could be summed up as, "why rush things?"

I mean, I understand what he's saying, but why not continue that defensive progress in high A? The leap in competition can't be all that different?

If that's true, then it begs the question - why move them? Why move them to a different city with different coaches and teammates for a minor increase in competition?

I know it's part of the process, but there is something to be said with continuity.

Then why are people begging for them to be promoted?

Bo and Vlad are tiny little babies. I'm fine with them being treated like babies, for now.

Next year Bo can go A+ --> AA --> AAA

(For the record, the competition is notably different. And so is the environment).

Someone with a BA account plz post Badler's latest IFA Top 50 article from today. Apparently we're linked to 5 of his Top 50 prospects.

For sure. I can look at the stats myself. But I can't scout for s***, even if I watch the game.

I thought they might want them in Dunedin because thats where most of the high perf. staff is and they have their own equipment etc... and can monitor them closer.

Bo lives in St Pete so maybe they don't want the distraction of being close to home although that would be pretty lame.

Cavan Biggio is having a solid year, he's not jumping out of this world but solid power and still showing his ability to get on base. K% is up, that could be something with the power he has shown but hopefully he can reign that in a bit as he moves up. He might get a chance at AA this year similar to what they did with him at the end of last season.

His stats look super underwhelming to me. No idea where you're getting "solid power" from. His ISO is .117. I don't think he's earned any promotion.

23. Haraldo SS from DR

Still think it's pretty solid for the FSL and a second baseman that does not profile as a power guy. I doubt the league ISO average for the FSL is near .120 and his wOBA is good.

That f***ing guy's a moron, no worries. Probably thinks ballplayers are dropped by Storks.

-Still not addressed by mods, point taken.
