Nafro Verified Member Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 Just noticed Dawel Lugo (The prospect we traded for f***ing Cliff Penninton) lol is now ranked Arizona's #2 prospect. That's a little depressing. 2. Dawel Lugo, 3b | image: http://www.baseballamerica.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/bba_video_icon_red.png bba_video_icon_red Born: Dec. 31, 1994. B-T: R-R. Ht.: 6-0. Wt.: 190. Signed: Dominican Republic, 2011. Signed by: Marco Paddy/Hilario Soriano (Blue Jays). Background: Originally signed by the Blue Jays in 2011 for $1.3 million, Lugo was acquired by the Diamondbacks in August 2015 for veteran infielder Cliff Pennington. Lugo dropped 15 pounds at the beginning of 2016, and his better conditioning helped him become a more explosive in all facets of his game. He did everything well at high Class A Visalia and Double-A Mobile before finishing the 2016 season in the Arizona Fall League. Scouting Report: In addition to changes to his physique, Lugo also became more disciplined at the plate by significantly improving his strikeout rate from 17.5 percent in 2015 to 11 percent in 2016. A potentially average hitter with quick hands, Lugo shows excellent hand-eye coordination and has above-average power with strong wrists. Defensively, Lugo came up as a shortstop but has moved to third base, where he has good hands and a plus arm. He improved his times to first base after losing weight but is no more than a fringe-average runner. The Future: Lugo has to show he can continue his all-around improvement to become an everyday third baseman down the road. He will return to Double-A to begin 2017 and has a good chance to reach Triple-A Reno during the summer. The front office (that no longer is around) left their team with Dawel Lugo as their number 2 prospect. Nothing against Lugo, he looks like he will be a decent player and all. I will be shocked if his power lasts outside Arizona minor league's.

Nafro Verified Member Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 Yeah Arizona's farm does suck. But still... Remember that game Cliff Pennington got thrown out from the bench...goodness that was a great playoff run.....
43211234 Verified Member Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 Lugo still probably won't hit enough to stick at 3B. Oh well if he does though.
Nafro Verified Member Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 Lugo still probably won't hit enough to stick at 3B. Oh well if he does though. ^This man. I have video from Game 5 of Texas, of my then almost 3 year old swinging a Blue Jays flag, going "Let's go Blue Jays, ch-ch....ch-ch-ch. Ten minutes later Jose hit his home run off Dyson. The trade for Cliff Pennington and every other move is part of that. Lugo could end up one day playing on a playoff team, maybe. Norris or Hoffman could win Cy Young's. I doubt it. Either way every Jays fan I know, knows where they were, when that home run was hit. The funny thing is, that of all the prospects they traded away, who saw Lugo being at the top of any prospect list? You are not wrong that it sucks a little, but is he in the top 15 of our list?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 BBREF says Reyes is 6' 3" 175 lbs but no way that's right Height and weight seldom ever get updated from their signing day. This is from Reyes signing (which was controversial at the time as it was exactly 1 year from the point he left the U.S. where he was born and raised). Reyes has an athletic 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame with long arms and saw his fastball increase from the high-80s to sitting at 90-94 mph by the time he signed.

King Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 jon 1:15 When trading major leaguers for prospects, do teams value players close to the majors but with warts (Candelario, maybe Peraza) more or less than the higher rated but further away players? Eric A Longenhagen 1:15 Yes, some teams don't scout below Hi-A. lol..
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Four unsigned Jays picks from the 2014 draft are ranked in BA's top 100 College prospects for this year. 8) RHP Tanner Houck (12th round) 74) RHP Zach Pop (23rd round) - from Brampton 77) LHP Jake Latz (11th round) 79) C Mike Papierski (16th round) http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2017-college-top-100-draft-prospects/#GyUtOQIszXl58jwr.97

Every team has that. Cleveland has 3: 11 Wil Crowe, rhp, South Carolina R-R 6-2 250 Indians ’16 (21) 26 Joe Dunand, ss/3b, North Carolina State R-R 6-2 205 Indians ’14 (35) 48 K.J. Harrison, 1b, Oregon State bba_video_icon_red R-R 6-0 208 Indians ’14 (25) I guess technically as Steve Sanders is the new scouting director, should look at Boston's list. 2 Jeren Kendall, of, Vanderbilt bba_video_icon_red L-R 6-0 190 Red Sox ’14 (30) 30 David Peterson, lhp, Oregon bba_video_icon_red L-L 6-6 242 Red Sox ’14 (28) 53 J.J. Matijevic, of/1b, Arizona bba_video_icon_red L-R 6-0 206 Red Sox ’14 (22) Dang! Did not know they nabbed Kendall. Hopefully Sanders/Cherington magic has a few steals this draft.

I don't know if you got the impression that I was complaining or something but I was just merely posting the info in case someone found it interesting. I'm aware that lot's of HS picks go unsigned.

43211234 Verified Member Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Leave it to King to be on top of the Tim Leiper tweets. Also, looks like Borucki in the middle behind Greene and Urena second from the left.

King Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Do you see the Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero Jr. staying at third base long term? And has he made his way into your Top 50 yet? -- Peter C., Chicago Though it's unclear whether Guerrero can remain at the hot corner, he looked better than expected in his pro debut last summer. He possesses the arm strength for third base and has improved his range, but he still has a very thick lower half and may not have enough quickness or range once he's physically mature. Guerrero, who signed for $3.9 million out of the Dominican Republic in 2015 -- his father got a mere $2,100 from the Expos 22 years earlier -- will be a star no matter where he plays. He has advanced hitting ability and massive power potential, and he easily handled the Rookie-level Appalachian League as its youngest regular (age 17). He easily cracked my personal Top 50 at No. 31 and I may rue placing him that low when I look back later this year.
