BTS Community Moderator Posted October 5, 2015 Author Posted October 5, 2015 But Price would get the same 2-3 starts, and the Jays offence is much better than Houston. The Astros strike out way too much. Yes, and the standings reflect what that means over a 162 game schedule. But an offense that includes Altuve, Correa, Springer, Gomez, and a red hot Chris Carter is capable of out gunning any team in the league over a short stretch. And they're supported by a very good pen, a bona fide ace, and Kazmir, McCullers, and McHugh. I don't think they're getting enough credit. Darkhorse WS candidate IMO.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 Good chance Toronto isn't considered the prime time series. I'm going to be at goddamned work for the first two games. People need to stop thinking about baseball like it's football. A short series is pretty much a crapshoot regardless of who is playing in it. The better team will not always win. It really feels like every team is capable of going the whole way this year. Some are stronger than others, but I wouldn't consider any of the 10 teams involved this year as non-starters like in years past. Very strong crop.
EMK19 Verified Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 I think JB's going to be the difference maker this series as far as our offence goes. We have guys like Revere, JB, and EE seeing and hitting the ball real well right now while Texas also have guys like Choo/Beltre/Fielder that have been hot coming in. If JD can gain second wind here and play more to the standards of his pre-September form, then I think that would be something that takes us over the top. Tulo might be another X-factor if he can somehow suddenly play back up to his normal offensive standards, but I'll keep my expectations at a reasonable level with him only recently having come back from that shoulder injury (but hopefully those two doubles in his first two games back is a good sign).
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 Assuming that the game is in the afternoon especially if the yankees win the WC.... When do they generally announce game times.

But you can say the same thing for Toronto, if not more so. Not saying that Houston is bad, they certainly have some very good players, but Toronto should be able to handle them. In fact, if the Jays play to their usual level I don't think anyone can top them. It's the playoffs, and anything can happen for sure, but all things being equalled I like the Jays chances.

Of course. Toronto is the best team in the playoffs. I'm saying that I think Houston is a very dangerous team that is being overlooked a bit. The Jays aren't going to waltz into the world series without some sweating. Probably not anyway. Houston is capable of making them sweat.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 Hmmm, last year it looks like they split the games. Hard to say if we'd get the early game or the late game slot. It might depend on whether the Yankees win the wild card, or the Astros do.

It might depend on whether the Yankees win the wild card, or the Astros do. I was thinking the same thing. I'd like to see the Astros get bounced early, but that'll mean the Yankees get the Prime Time slot. If the Yankees get bounced I think the Royals will be considered the Prime Time slot. Last year's Cinderella vs. this year's. Maybe Rogers can step up for me and offer TBS and FOX a gajillion dollars to make Toronto's the night games?

Masterbather Verified Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 The real question is: Will FOX force the Jays to play God Bless America during the 7th inning? If so, I hope Torontonians rightly boo the hell out of their over-politicizing baseball.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 They will announce it during the WC broadcast Ok. Isn't it contingent on who wins the WC though? It should be... I forget how they do it.

Either way, I don't see how fox holding the broadcasts rights has anything to do with it. I expect that decision rests on the home team.

Kind of amazing to think about how much has changed in reference frames such as this since the Jays were last in the playoffs.

Although a mistake... so they say...

Funny enough I recall the last time we made the playoffs there was a federal election going on... much like this year, coincidently. Scary to think that is now 6 federal elections ago.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 Rangers really aren't the same team as they were early on in the season. Neither are the Blue Jays to be honest. I think looking at how the teams performed in the 2nd half is more telling than full season baseruns. Just by evaluating the players the blue jays seem to have a very favourable matchup. We went 42-14 from deadline to clinch for a .750 win percentage if you want to cherry pick stats. They are still an under .500 club using base runs, even including the better second half. Teams as bad as Texas rarely make the playoffs, it's a great matchup for us.

Revere and Tulo had been very successful vs. Gallardo during their national league tenures; Tulo in particular is hitting over .400 vs. Gallardo, 11 for 27 lifetime. And EE has hit over .300 vs. him with 3 HRs as well. He's had two good starts vs. us this year for sure but we've got some guys that have good history of success against him so I'm not that worried personally. BTW, while the samples are small Hamels' numbers vs. our hitters aren't that great either, FWIR.
