I didn't realize you were completely disregarding David Price in that argument, carry on.

3 starts didn't qualify as a means for comparison. Obviously Price is the bestest best!

12 wins, 2 losses.

Guy gives us an 85.7% chance to win every time out.

Is Buffalo on the verge of missing the playoffs and someone needed to push them in?

LOL! You're my new fav troll.

Demoted for being the best starter on the team = lol

Your words, not mine. You set the parameters for this analysis. Nowhere did you say "our most valuable starter thus far" or anything of that nature.

Yeah they are not going to use him during the road trip due to the off days. They'll bring him back when the team goes back home and/or needs a fifth starter.

Doesn't he have to stay down for 15 days unless there's an injury?

I guess it's possible that Hague is only up for the Phillies series and then they could make a move to bring Thole up.

It is 10 days I believe

Really surprised they didn't go with a one day callup of Thole. Seems like giving him a start and using Martin as pinch hitter for the first game and then calling Hague up for the second one would have been more effective.

Seems kind of weird/innefective to wait after the Dickey start to call up Thole.

Home/away splits are stupid and meaningless... that's how. All that matters is overall performance and projections.

No offense, but you come across as someone who hugs certain stats and ignores everything else as a means to prove your point. I LOVE stats, but there is more to this game than stats alone. Hutch has been awful on the road all year. Every stat suggests he's been awful (not unlucky). At some point, you simply have to look at the results man.

We'd get more from not playing Pompey than rostering Carrera.

Pompey is hurt, bro

These moves make sense to me.

With 3 off days in the next 8 days it makes sense to drop a Starter and add a pinch hitter and a 4th OF. The National league games will require a bigger bench and with Goins and Pennington manning 2B it won't hurt to have some more pinch hitters even for the AL games. Hutch can come back later this month.

H/R splits are completely meaningless over a sample this small. RC is an extreme hitter's park, and there's absolutely no reason to think he'll continue to be so good there; nor is there any reason to believe he'll continue to be so bad on the road. This is statistical noise, nothing more and nothing less.

Why can't Heinsy be called up instead of Zeke? Zeke is so tuuurrrrible.

Heisey not on the 40. Also I'm no sure about Heisey's CF defense (and no I don't love Zeke's but he has the speed if not the smarts).

Do you guys really think Alex and Gibbons look at sabermetrics? Why reference FIP when the decision makers don't have a clue what it is? He has sucked on the road (legit sucked, not unlucky), and even though it might be a sample size issue, they don't want to risk it during a time when they can avoid using him on the road. He will be back up and he will be starting road games in late August/September unless Stroman is back somehow.

Doesn't FIP and xFIP take into account park factors?

Just heard no Carrera as of now. They are making another call up tomorrow (could still be Carrera), but if Pompey plays he is coming up or AA is still being a moron

Interesting if true, maybe they want to see Pompey play tonight and go from there. Mind you AA said earlier that Pompey won't be up until after the Milb season. It could be Thole for a day, as KK has referred to.

Thole for sure....

There's nothing sustainable about a .420 road BABIP. 51 IP is not predictive of a true talent level or long term trend.

No. FIP- and xFIP- are what you're looking for.

It would pretty hilarious if Thole is called up and we have 2 more position players who aren't outfielders. The only way Thole should be called up is if Navarro is DFA'd.

Have you been watching Martin play for the past half month?

This is an example of good roster management, at least from the perspective of demoting Hutchison, and people still yap about it. As far as handling the situation so that Hutchison doesn't feel slighted or hurt...it takes a few minutes of conversation. He knows he's not going to bump Dickey, Price or Buehlre so it comes down to him or Estrada and Estrada's been pitching well. They just need to explain to him that they want to keep him ready for the rotation for the September playoff drive so they don't want to put him in the pen. Meanwhile he can rest his arm a bit with strict pitch limits while working on some mechanics.

Drew Hutchison:

WAR: 1st

K/9: 1st

BB/9: 2nd

FIP: 1st

xFIP: 1st

Luck: 5th

David Price and Dickey are the Jays best starters. Hutch has been brutal and luck has very little to do with it, inconsistent would be more accurate.
