Asked this in another thread...have they said if he will come back as a starter or reliever.

It would be idiotic to have your 2nd best pitcher come in as a reviler.

gibby said reliever. That said if his rehab goes well and he looks great can't see why you wouldn't bring him back to start.

Minors end Sept 7th not a lot of time for him to get stretched out. However i was one that did not think he would come back as quick. I don't think you will see the Jays rush the franchise back and go hard on him.

If he is healthy and can avoid getting hurt and IF he is the same guy who prompted many articles about how his pitches are comparable to some of the best in baseball, then this could be huge. The only thing is that our pitchers are (surprisingly) firing on all cylinders lately, besides Hutch. I don't think I'd want Estrada out of the rotation. Prior to last year he was on a lot of people's sleeper list and didn't have the best year, but I believe he can stay a good pitcher. The Lind deal, of all the deals, migt have been one of the most important ones at this point.

Of f***ing course he's not going to be a starter.

There is no time for him to be stretched out sufficiently, especially coming off surgery. If you did that he'd arrive at end of September.

Usually it takes pitchers a month and a half to get ready and stretched out for the start of the regular season after the off season. This is comparable and if he is only ready for rehab come the 22nd that leaves him 2 weeks....

Would you risk your future #1 and rush him like that after being off 5-6 months due to injury..... That seems stupid too me

It wasn't his arm that blew out. He's been walking and throwing off his leg for a while now. If this was TJS or anything shoulder related, sure.

E: ^ See. JAM(my) gets it.

He's been throwing all summer.

Can you really compare soft toss to pitching off a mound though?

Who said he was soft tossing? I'm sure he was keeping his arm in shape. There was never anything wrong with his arm, not sure why you think he is just starting to ramp things up now.

You can see clips of him working out, working on his leg and working on his pitches. Its not as if he's been sitting on the couch eating potato chips peeps.

I just have a hard time believing that 2 weeks is enough time to get him stretched out completely (baring any setbacks of course)

"stretching" someone out. Such a stupid concept.

Just start him, if he doesn't do well in the particular game, then just pull him and bring in a reliever. It's not that complicated.

Lots of pitchers begin throwing before they get to spring training as well. He'd probably have 3 or 4 starts to build up his pitch count. Often it is more than that for pitchers. Not saying I necessarily agree with it, since I think most pitchers are babied too much, but that's how things work.

He posts videos of his intense workout routine almost every day. I'm sure he wants to come back as a starter, and he certainly has the work ethic and dedication to beat the odds.

If he's throwing already every 5th day, what's the difference? Stroman is an incredibly hard worker, I have little doubt that he's been doing all he can to get him arm up to snuff. He wants to start, I'm sure he's able to do so.

Anything he does this year is gravy - starting or relieving. Not getting excited about it.

Just hope they don't push it. Too valuable for 2016. With additions we have a pretty competitive group for this yr and next.
