TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Reyes with the Marlins wasn't the peak Reyes with the Mets. His hamstring injuries already turned him into a mediocre defender and his best offensive days were behind him. Im not one of those guys that shits on Reyes all time, i don't even mind but he wasn't the equivalent of Tulo now. If you look at that trade we didn't give up prospects for him, the surplus value was for Johnson, how the f*** is any of this similar to that trade? Reyes projection the year after the trade...4.4 WAR Tulo Projection the rest of the this season 1.7 WAR...over 500 PA's 3.8. they are almost exactly in the same place.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Author Posted July 28, 2015 what if we get Tulo, Hamels, Papelbon... AA goes all in The way AA rolls, King Felix is starting for us tomorrow.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 i wonder if its well-known prospect, shouldnt it be leaked by now Maybe the third team in the deal is for some prospects that we send to the rockies
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I think you're overestimating what he was, his final year with the Mets was good but mostly BABIP driven. His 2010 season was mediocre and he was injured for almost all of 2009. We'll have to agree to disagree if you think Reyes at the time of the trade was as valuable as Tulo is now. I think their situations, all things considered, are very similar. IIRC projections had Reyes at around 4 wins his first year here. They'll probably have Tulo at like 4.5 next year. Everything else is almost identical though. Tulo is just older and has a longer injury history.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 interesting to wake up to this. I don't think the Jays would flip Tulo. They don't have a SS in their system that is good enough to play now. who are we trading to get a starter?
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I think Jays can probably limit the damage to Tolu by having him DH 50-60 games. His bat plays there too, not like Reyes.

As others have mentioned, he might not be enthusiastic about playing on turf in Toronto. BTS Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Old-school BTS/Hurl tag team up in this biatch
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Hawkins sure gets around... twins, cubs, giants, orioles, yankees, astros, brewers, angels, mets, rockies and now jays.

BTS Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Hawkins sure gets around... twins, cubs, giants, orioles, yankees, astros, brewers, angels, mets, rockies and now jays. Love that guy. He's like 43 and still getting people out. Such a boss.

The big difference for me is that Tulo's game is based more on power, and Reyes more on speed. I have to think the power is likely to age better. Even if Tulo has to be moved off SS he still has the bat to play OF or corner IF at an elite level.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Projections were wrong. This is a very dumn post. I don't love BTS' wet blanketing of this thread, but his point is valid. Tulo could easily break down just as easily as Reyes.

Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 If Tulo will DH next year we better find a good backup SS
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Love that guy. He's like 43 and still getting people out. Such a boss. Still throwing mid nineties too.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 C YA Castro. Who else? No way he can be the biggest prospect.
nmrch Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Miguel Castro if f***ing useless, that would be awesome if he was the main piece
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 C YA Castro. Who else? No way he can be the biggest prospect. Yeah like seriously.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Tulo misses 70 games in his age 32 season while his defense slides and he puts up 1 win for $20M... the hate will be real. not by the casuals though. They will love his "grit" and "toughness" this s*** is real. No one ever shits on white players who were once great. Think Biggio, Rose, Brett, Chipper. Lesser and younger examples...Jim Edmonds, Johnny Damon, David Wright. No one ever says anything really negative about those guys.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I thought the saber guys would hate Hawkins Gets strikeouts, limits walks, gets groundballs, what's not to like?
nonamejays Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 He's a pitcher that can throw the ball without getting destroyed every inning he's on the mound. That's a major improvement right there.
