Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I'm lost. Who's our fifth starter then, because so far they've all been s***. So has Sanchez....
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Isn't this just a move to help limit his innings? He's already been hurt this year and hasn't been very good as a starter. Accordingly, this moves seems logical. Gibby needs to use Hendriks more.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 wait and see. Goodbye Norris, Pompey, Hoffman I'd rather they try to flip Edwin for some pitching and get Smoak's bat in there every day. Edwin for prospects --> prospects to Cincy or Philly is the best case scenario for addressing the need for pitching in 2015 and keeping these young guys for 2016.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 ^ Edwin has not been good this year. In the off season that move would have had value. Now I can't see teams trading for a DH with less than .800 ops.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 This one makes baseball sense and is easy to PR spin...just have to play up how the trade market for relievers would cost the Jays too much and how they are protecting Sanchez from further injury. Play up how good he was last year in the pen and how the pen needs help. Really AA's speech is already written for him. Could be that someone less dumm in is in AA's ear, but likely he believes most of what I just said rather than understanding how it makes baseball sense.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I'm lost. Who's our fifth starter then, because so far they've all been s***. Doubront, until they get someone in a trade.

Edwin, Pompey for Carlos Gomez, Fiers and KRod
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Author Posted July 20, 2015 Is Sanchez actually a better reliever than Hendriks and Cecil? It's hard to make the case. Hendriks' 39 innings this year are better than Sanchez's 33 were last year. I don't think he should be immediately used in high leverage. but ERA and ......................good sound when the ball touch the catcher's glove.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Gibbons must be tired of watching loup and Cecil implode with the lead Why did he get tired Of throwing Accardo out there for blown save after blown save
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 He'd forfeit/cancel that trade. Why would he if he's dealt to a real contender for prospects?

Any prevailing notion that he automatically will correct deep command issues as a reliever is taking a giant leap of faith with little basis for that assumption.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Knowing AA.............. Edwin, Pompey for Carlos Gomez, Fiers and KRod Why on earth would Milwaukee want Edwin? Why would Edwin allow that trade to happen? And why would we want to trade him? I expect better stupid trade ideas from you.

Love the guy but Edwin is having a tough year. K ratio way up and rarely lays off or gets to the ball away. It may just be nagging injuries but he looks like he is on the down. With his lack of D capability I hate to say it but the value for him is not going to be great, even if he didn't 10-5 veto a deal.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Author Posted July 20, 2015 Jon Morosi #Pirates interested in Justin Upton, but they will prioritize an infielder if Jordy Mercer is out for extended period. Holding pattern now. Jose Reyes and tons dollars for Polanco
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Knowing AA.............. Edwin, Pompey for Carlos Gomez, Fiers and KRod Fiers is interesting would he be pretty cheap? He seems like a guy who might need a good game caller to be effective. Really good offspeed stuff, but needs to be extremely careful with his fastball.

Governator Community Moderator Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 High leverage doesn't have to be 9th inning 1 run games or runners in scoring position in the 8th. I'd trust Sanchez a lot more than Aaron Loup facing 2 right handed bats in a row in the 7th inning of a 1 run game, aka Saturday.
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Would you trust Sanchez more than Liam Hendriks or Bo Schultz? Those are the guys whose late-inning appearances he'll be replacing going forward. Saturday was frustrating but it's not like a lack of right-handed bullpen talent is what lost the game. No I don't want him replacing Hendriks and it doesn't mean he will but it's ok if Schultz & Sanchez are basically used interchangeably.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Sanchez to the pen is likely because the price of pig f***er and K-rod is too high, so might as well get raped for a starting pitcher trade then for an old reliever.

Nightmaul Verified Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I wonder would could have been with Sanchez if he never got injured, he was cruising along those last few starts...
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Polanco sucks wat? we aren't talking Placido here man.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 wat? we aren't talking Placido here man. Maybe he will be good in a year or two, not quite there IMO. FWIW the Pirates were reportedly interested in Ben Revere which would send Polanco down to AAA/part time role.

Doesn't mean much if we keep slinging out s*** like Tepera and Francis(earlier in the year) in high leverage situations
