very few teams are perfectly constructed ... so make up your mind, bro, whether Alex has put together a division winning type of team or not ... and if he has then fire him?

Most of the AL East outside of the Yankees have similar issues. Why do you think everyone is so bunched together in the standings?

well, I wouldn't even call the Yankees issue-free.

glory is trying to have it both ways:

Gibby is f***ing up a team that should win the division

and AA should be fired because his teams aren't good enough.

Hey, at least we're not in danger of turning into the Phillies, which is where the Tigers are headed.. similar record as the Jays, and huge albatrosses. Hell, their GM, Dave Dombrowski, may be fired at season's end. Perhaps he can take Brad Ausmus with him.. many of the Tigers fans want him gone too. And BTW, the mess is REALLY bad in the Tigers organization.. multiple potential albatrosses, no farm, and no payroll relief in sight for the rest of the decade.

Except both Phillies and Tigers fans have something to feel good about in the last ten years. They might suck now, but as a result of their actions they actually experienced success

The Bluejays have had 0 success in the last twenty yeas.

Jays have the longest playoff drought in majors at 21 years (22 soon).

Since 2000 every team in the majors has made the playoffs, with the exception of 1 team...

I'm not sure what exactly you are looking for. Winning a weaker (than normal) division doesn't mean AA's doing a good job. However, the Jays based on run differential and other factors should be much better than their record indicates. When they employ a manager that doesn't know who his best relievers are, values offense over defense leading to stupidity like Colabello in the outfield, is dumb enough to think Navarro is a good enough hitter to justify the lost runs on defense by putting Edwin at first, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, it's not a surprise that their record in one run games is so bad and they are playing well below their run differential.

AA and Gibbons both stink. A better GM would have rounded out the roster better, and a better manager puts this team in a better position to win the close games. They both need to go.

Every other team outside of the AL East don't have the frigging Yankees and Red Sox in their division outspending everybody. And this whining will be coming to Tampa and Baltimore in the next few years, as their windows to contend are about to slam shut due to money and/or free agency.

Baltimore didn't make the playoffs for 14 years after their appearance in 1998 and likely went through this same issue. And it's going to be a long time before Tampa sees the postseason again until they get a new stadium..

Gibbons inability to learn from his own mistakes is the reason why he needs to be fired. He keeps putting Colabello in LF when it has been proven beyond any doubt that he can't play the position and costs them runs/games by being out there. Gibbons lack of courage to confront Reyes and move him to LF is reason number 2. The guy simply does not know how to make the most out of the players he's got. He keeps putting players in positions they are not capable of playing; Reyes at SS and Colabello in LF. The team needs a manager who can manage the players he has and to use them in a logical, useful way.

Colabello, Navarro, Goins, Carrera, Dickey, Doubront, Schultz, and Tepera are not major-league calibre players. That's 32% of the roster he's been provided with.

This is fair but Gibbons did start Ryan Goins in LF because he had good numbers against Buchholz. The man is not smart, he uses his fat gut and goes with the hot hand way to often.

Gibbons was supposed to be good at managing the BP, which is said to be one of the few areas a manager can actually impact and I think he's impacted it the wrong way.

It seems that he doesn't know that Hendriks is actually pretty good and might be his 2nd or 3rd best reliever. He's using him more as a mop up guy than as a top reliever.

The other guy he's mis-used is Smoak. He has really had a short leash with him.

Having said this, even AA acknowledged the team has roster issues. I do give credit to AA for standing by Gibbons. The fact that he has stood by Gibbons shows you that the F/O knows that it is them and only them who can address the team's issues. Why they haven't addressed said issues is another story.

I also wonder if something happened with Pompey. They praised the way he went about his business at the end of last year and in ST and for them to send him down after 22 or so games seems rather odd.

I think they just wrongly evaluated his defense as i did. He looked sick in his brief call up last year but looked terrible this year. Not taking charge in the outfield, tarty on plays and letting his emotions get in the way of his game. At the plate he looked really susceptible to the offspeed and was a bit pull happy. It probably would have just gotten worse tbh.

Agree with the offense problems, but the defense was better than fine. Rookie mistakes happen. Pillar has made more than his share of bone head decisions on defense too. And no im not saying Pillar is worse than Pompey. Just that the kinds of mistakes Pompey was making are easily correctable and his overall defense game is just fine for CF

This is why I wonder if it's something that happened in the club house or some thing. For the record, this is pure speculation.

I mean, like you said, it's not like other players haven't made errors or misjudged flyballs. Same applies to Norris. Some of these vetrins have also made mistakes and they stick with them, like Colabello.

Anyway...

Colabello is starting in LF and also hitting ahead of Travis, fire this f***ing idiot.

Holy f***, f*** off Gibbons

At least he's starting Smoak at 1B! At least we don't have Grady ****ing Sizemore playing RF and batting 2nd.. just hit everything to right! Sizemore makes Collabello look good defensively..

On all seriousness, Gibby using Osuna up by 4 runs in the ninth versus a weak offense in the Rays is f***ing hilarious. He actually embarrasses the organization doing dumb s*** like that.

Gibbons will just shrug his shoulders and joke with reporters after the game.

it sounded like he admitted he was dumb using Schultz for 2 innings
