jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Just checking in. LTR you let us down. 1 week ban i think is fair.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 To be clear, I ain't blaming Gibby for the loss. I just would've brought in a righty to face Abreu. Although, who knows who was even available.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Wilner defending Reyes again Reyes doesn't deserve defense by anyone if he's not going to play decent defense.. or hit consistently. Next time the Jays have a lead, put Goins in late in games!

Although, who knows who was even available. Actually, that's a rational thought.. he is still the best hitter on the White Sox (and that's not saying much.. that team outside of Sale and Abreu is awful.) But if only Reyes had not made that error.. Actually, we would've still faced Eaton/Abreu/Cabrera in the next inning. And considering how they hit Buehrle late, they still likely walk off on us, as Buehrle ran out of gas by that point.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 DFA this bum (Carrera)! Don't we have ANY OFs that have at least some baseball IQ?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Wilner getting trolled hahaha Witchcraft?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 2 things about Carrera not running to 2B on the final play of game: 1. it was a one-hop liner to SS. He was probably not sure if it would be caught in the air. If he had taken off on contact and doubled off at 1b, he might be getting criticized all the same. 2. The ball was hit hard by Valencia. You combine the 2, it's possible it was one of those plays. It does look bad, but if true that he gave up, he's not the only player on this team not to run hard on plays.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Yea...Pompey...but he's in the minors for some reason. Because he didn't hit.. but at this point, it's time to bring him back. We can't afford to be pissing ABs away on Carrera, or playing Valencia at LF so much..
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 He is a damn rookie. He had a few bad weeks. Should have let him fight through it. Too bad we have by far the worst management in the league that is incapable to see logic. Not by a mile do we have the worst management. There are worse management teams I can name.. AJ Preller in San Diego, RAJ in Philly, Jack Z in Seattle, whoever is on the Rockies, and of course the Marlins. And Kenny Williams in Chicago deserves some votes..

Too bad we have by far the worst management in the league that is incapable to see logic. He needed more development time anyway. He should never have made the Opening Day roster.. more because the Jays couldn't find a decent OF option (remember we tried Viciedo in spring training?)
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Diamondbacks. Them too. I just don't understand what they're doing.. and why didn't they trade for Navarro? They desperately needed a catcher.. but he did get rid of that awful Trumbo deal, and Arroyo's contract.. but giving up a decent prospect hurts.

LTR Verified Member Posted July 7, 2015 Author Posted July 7, 2015 Hey Reyes, as long as in your own mind you think you got the ball, well that's all that really matters! #KeepSmilin' http://andrewstoeten.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/reyeserror-cws2.gif

flafson Verified Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 I don't know what you guys want with Reyes, he's all bat type of player. Back then AA's theory was to get as much offense as possible and screw the defense. His contract is too big to do anything with it... Would you rather have Goins in there who is the exact opposite but cheaper version?

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 The best way to use Reyes is to put in a defensive replacement for him with it's tight and late. The best possible role for Goins is as a defensive replacement. Somehow in spite of having the personnel in place that dictates a very specific strategy, it's not happening. I know that managing egos is a huge part of baseball, a part that's often far too casually dismissed BUT.... at some point, you can't keep giving away games because you don't want to bruise any egos. The important thing is to do in a way that's respectful to the player. Explain the situation to the player beforehand, implement the change and then move on. If you're straight with him, he should get over it. It's a conversation that should have taken place in the off season.

Plus, IIRC, Reyes had an AB the previous half inning, meaning he was very unlikely to bat again in the game... 100% an ego thing, but at a point that has to matter less. (you are right, often too casually dismissed)

(you are right, often too casually dismissed) You could always spin it as an injury prevention thing. We're going to take you out after your last PA in most games to give you extra rest and keep you fresh. Don't ask his opinion. Don't criticize his play. Just straight-forwardly tell him what you're doing. Let him speak his piece. Let him be unhappy about it but in the end, just do it regardless of how he feels about it. He deserves to be told how he will be used but that's where the protecting of his ego should end. Edited July 7, 2015 by KingKat

When players are interviewed (even Reyes) they talk about getting on base etc.. to help the team win games. You simply tell everyone that Reyes is being taken out to help the team win. If Reyes doesn't like it he can retire for all I care. Reyes went from -4 DRS to -6 after the game last night. Worst part about Reyes is he isn't even an above average hitter anymore.

Reminds me a little of when we had Rios and Wells in the OF and balls in the gap Rios would let Wells handle them even though Rios had a superior arm.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 But his bat isn't even that good anymore. lol I was gonna rant on you but look at that...negative offensive value and positive defensive value. Two weeks ago I remember checking and he was the on + side on both. Either way, he's still better than Goins, especially on the basepaths.

LTR Verified Member Posted July 7, 2015 Author Posted July 7, 2015 He's a career 106 wRC+. Why look at career numbers when a player is clearly declining? At least look at his projections... 99 wRC+ RoS w/ Steamer. Average offensive player with above average BsR.
