This is a weird statement. Why does what Steamer "thinks" matter? Does Steamer even "think"? It's projecting him to be above league average so he should start. Steamer isn't designed to project playing time.

IIRC, the best method for projecting playing time is crowd sourcing and STEAMER on that front, is, for lack of a better word, a steaming pile. A crowd sourced prediction of playing time with a STEAMER performance projection is optimal.

When it comes to things like manager usage, team philosophy, fans really have a pulse on that sort of thing in a way that no current computer can.

So is everyone here just giving up on Hutch? He was pretty shaky this year, but last year he was great. Hutch is a solid #3 IMO.

 

I still feel we need 2 acquisitions though. Gotta prepare for injuries and whatnot.

Zimmermann

Chen

Hutchison

Dickey

 

With Sanchez/Osuna/Hendriks as depth.

 

 

With our offense, a rotation like that should be adequate.

Steamer is better than the crowd at projecting peformance. The only thing I'm saying is that people are better at predicting playing time. You're extrapolating falsehoods from what I'm saying.

Literally everyone knows that they don't perfectly project what a given player or team will do. People use them because they give a quick reference as to what a reasonable, unbiased expectation for a given player or team will look like.

It doesn't necessarily but thought it noteworthy all the same. After a season like this one, I don't think it's a slam dunk that Iannetta gets a starting gig.
