G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Ben Nicholson-Smith Source: #BlueJays set to select contract of RHP Todd Redmond today. Good thing we have an off day Thursday and can skip a starter
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Can we send Cecil down? I would've sent him down to get more opportunities to fix his tipping. I'm worried that Gibbons hasn't announced that hes dropping him from the closers role.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 yes let's send down one of our 3 best relievers
flafson Verified Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 yes let's send down one of our 3 best relievers The guy throws 1 fastball and then 5 curveballs, it gets old really fast when the team he's facing is waiting for him to come to the strike zone.

He is in the wrong role because we have nobody else but despite the last few outings, which have sucked, he is one of our best relievers. Delabar may get a shot to close or Hendricks.

Until Cecil can find the strike zone with his off-speed stuff, I think he's going to continue to struggle. I'd move him down the line a bit and see if he can regain some confidence. Probably move Delabar into the closer role in the meantime.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Barry Davis The #BlueJays will be calling up Redmond and Rasmussen from AAA.
ColdPint Verified Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Just got a Sportsnet phone alert that said Redmond is on his way back up to join the team. So Travis, Redmond and Rasmussen.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Rasmussen is good. I wish Boyd was up instead of Redmond though. Boyd is part of AA masterplan to acquire KRod You know the guy we could have signed without reading any assets at all. Now we will trade assets for him
jays76 Verified Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Rasmussen is good. I wish Boyd was up instead of Redmond though. Not a fan of Rasmussen but I'll take him over Coke any day in that Lefty role.
theblujay Verified Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 When is Sanchez coming back he was our best pitcher before he got hurt?
theblujay Verified Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 No he wasn't? It doesn't really matter because he's no better than Redmond or Boyd. You can't seriously think Sanchez isn't a better pitcher than Redmond??????
theblujay Verified Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Sanchez was coming off a 8 inning no walk game. That's a very good start. His XFIP over his last 4 starts was looking very good and his walks were greatly diminishing
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Boyd is part of AA masterplan to acquire KRod You know the guy we could have signed without reading any assets at all. Now we will trade assets for him I remember reading that AA didn't want Farrell to play Hech in 2012 because AA wanted to preserve his trade value. I could see Gyro Boy keeping Boyd down for that reason.
LTR Verified Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 That's what people said after Loup blew up a while ago and he's been money since. I'd like to see a righty named the closer though. Let Cecil pitch situationally in the 7th and 8th. Huh? Loup has given up 4 ER in his last 2 starts? Admittedly he's better than his results, nevertheless the guy has NOT BEEN MONEY.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Since May 18th, Loup has 13.1 innings of 3.38 ERA / 1.75 xFIP ball. Three holds. Money! BUT EARNED RUNS!!!11! apologies for cheerleading
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Jays bullpen.is great when the score is 10-6 Put them.in a close game and the bottom.falls of How about the bullpen in close and late games
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 what moves are being made today? we burned through the entire bullpen yesterday and we need pen arms if we don't get a good start tonight.

Barry Davis has the scoop: Redmond and Rasmussen called up and Dickey off bereavement. With an off day on Thursday they won't need a 5th starter this time through the rotation.

Governator Community Moderator Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 How many teams rely on 2 crafty lefties as their setup & closer? Loup is a loogy and Cecil needs the pressure off him to hit his spots with that curve, it's an unforgivable pitch. Give me a power arm to close out games, Delabar is our best options at this point. Osuna could also be moved there to save his arm more this season by being the 9th inning man and give us more reliability. (Cecil has pitched 30% less innings than Osuna in the closer role)
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 22, 2015 Author Posted June 22, 2015 How many teams rely on 2 crafty lefties as their setup & closer? Traditional thinking is that ceding the approximately 60-40 platoon advantage in the 9th inning makes no sense so most of the lefty closers have been really special bullpen guys (Rags, Wagner, Myers come to mind). There are the second tier guys like Guardado, Rocker, Wild Thing). I'd much rather see the death of the closer all together and pitch your best guys in the situations where they can best succeed. It made me shoot a load to watch the Rays bring Boxberger in for the 7th to face the heart of the Red Sox order and let Geltz close out the 9th.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 he also gets almost as many swinging strikes on those curves as Kershaw. Kershaw: last 5 games 34 2/3 innings, 6 ER, 49 K's Cecil: last 5 games 4 2/3 innings 9 ER, 5 Ks
