ScientificReason Verified Member Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Jays need to get back on a winning streak right now! We're in a dog fight. Baltimore is playing better now and have passed the jays because we gave away two games in NY. we have to beat up on the east next week! The 1 run games and blown games have to stop man, the jays record in 1 run games is terrible. They have lost a half dozen games at least they had no business losing. best Run Differential in baseball only 3 above .500.
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 The Jays need another winning streak and then to add pieces at the deadline. One winning streak was to dig themselves out of the huge hole they were in. Another winning streak is needed to take a leap towards being a playoff team. Clearly, the division is starting to play better, and .500 will not cut it. Agree I am not sold on this team yet, we have seen this before.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Masterson has been awful in Boston, but he is on a one year deal, and has started of terrible in the past. With the Redsox crashing and burning, i would give serious consideration to taking him off Boston's hands for nothing in return. Would cost us remainder of the year 5M - 6M, but it could be worth it.

He is better than everyone in the rotation we have right now say Burly. He may not have pitched well this year, but there is a different between being good and not pitching well, and being terrib le.

Caper Verified Member Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 You know what's weird. I can't remember the last time the Jays were out of a ball game. Just looked back and it was like May 15 loss against the Astros.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 herpderp derpin extra this morning wat Justin Masterson is awful and I would probably take Scott Copeland over him at this point
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Who is this year's Brandon McCarthy (bad ERA, good FIP, team will sell low)? Samardzija?

Please tell me this is a joke. He has been terrible this year no matter how you cut it. You don't bring in a guy who has been bad for a year and a half in order to take your team to the next level.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 How can anyone argue that Masterson is good? He was good two years ago. A year ago he was bad. This year he is worse. Granted, I haven't looked at the peripherals to see if he's been unlucky or whatever, but I tend to give more leeway to pitchers who have a consistent record of being good lately. Dickey, Buehrle and Hutch have been good in the past. Not great, but good. I fully expect the first two to regress, but not to the point that they can't pitch in the AL East. I expect Dickey to improve, he's not this bad. Same thing with Hutch. I'm willing to give Estrada a chance, especially now that he is working in his 3rd pitch curveball (and will introduce his cutter more). Sanchez is self explanatory.

I don't think you're gonna find anyone arguing that. At least I hope not. If we think there's logic in getting him we may as well just trade for the entire starting staff of the Red Sox.

Governator Community Moderator Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Buchholz, he has 2 options after this year though I don't care how good he could be, I don't want that greaseball anywhere near this team.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Pillar has a 1.2 WAR right now. His defence numbers aren't as high as I expected. Anyway, as a projected 4th OF a 1.2 WAR is great. I love him on the team right now.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Lol at anyone who thinks that Copeland is better than Masterson. Just lol. Jays fans get what they deserve
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Lol at anyone who thinks that Copeland is better than Masterson. Just lol. Jays fans get what they deserve Both are below average players. But why are we comparing them? Copeland is not part of the rotation. And you want to take Masterson's salary just so he can throw in 2 starts before Sanchez gets back? ???
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Devon Travis better get red hot quick when he comes back. I think both Correa and especially Gallo could take the ROY this year.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Copeland and Masterson are not the same. Masterson is projected to be above replacement for the rest of the season. I predict he will do even better, Copeland below replacement/

No one should want either of them as a permanent piece of our rotation if the playoffs are the end goal.

Unless you can acquire two starters, Masterson is superior to 2 maybe 3 starters in this rotation. As it currently stands.

Right now it looks like he can be a 3 WAR CF MLB

To gamble on a guy coming back from a horrendous start to the year, a bad 2014 and coming off an injury just wouldn't make sense. We are trying to make an impact move that adds wins to our season, not one that kinda maybe will if everything goes right.

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 How much would it take to get, Kazmir, Clippard Reddick and Chavez from the A's 3 are free agents this off season and one next year! Knowing this and that Dickey and Thole would have to move the other way to offset some of the payroll we are taking on? I would also be willing to pay them 2-5 million next year for Dickey Thole if need be! Would this be considered enough of a all in move to finally make the post season promise land? Would you throw in a Norris, Hoffman or Shanchez and which? What kind of package would you offer?
