Are you kidding me? Moving from the NL to the AL East has got to be the worst thing you can do for yourself as a pitcher.

1) Beastly DH's instead of the pitcher spot.

2) A lot of NL parks are pitcher friendly parks, all of the AL East are launchpads.

3) Bluejays, Yanks, and Orioles are pretty much top 5 in every offensive category.

4) With the exception of the Rays, all the AL teams are offence first and play for the big inning.

I think the negative effect of moving to the AL East is underrated if anything.

You're right. Cueto would probably have an ERA close to 5 in the dreaded AL east. Best we don't go after him, or any pitcher outside the division.

Don't the Mets have Tejada at 2nd? Isn't he supposed to be a young promising hitter?

Only thing Tejada has going for him is he's 25 and already has +5 years of service.

He's pretty much like Travis Snider, except he doesn't have any potential.

That's Wilmer Flores - he's playing SS for them.

I hate to bring everything back to the Rays, but in this case it is completely appropriate. Rays standard road pitching stats are the best in the majors so far. Good pitchers succeed in the AL East and in this particular case bad pitchers can too

So what other things do we have that Chicago might want

I don't know. Pentecost, Boyd, Sanchez? I don't think Travis or Norris would be on the table for 2-3 months of Samardzija. A year and a half of Samardzija + a couple months of Hammel got a top tier prospect in Russell, so you'd think they would require a lot less now.

Do you guys really want Samardz? I know his peri looks good but his strikeouts are down as is his GB rate.

I wouldn't want to pay anything close to what his value should be if he were pitching well.

Despite the declines he's still a very good pitcher. One thing I like is that he has been durable and has the build and delivery of a guy who should continue to be. As much as I like Cueto it often seems or feels that he is close to being injured. Cueto is better but Samardzija is more reliable and will cost significantly less.

Sanchez isn't going anywhere for a rental

Eduardo Rodriguez was traded for Andrew Miller last year. If you get a player who can put your team over the top for Sanchez you do it 10/10 times.

How did that work out for the Orioles? Were fourth place in the division, do we really want to overpay on a rental - good starting pitching is hard to find and we keep trading ours away.

Debatable whether Sanchez himself constitutes "good starting pitching" at this present time.

E: not really

They won the division?

Sanchez is not on the same level of Samardzija, it would be a huge upgrade. How good exactly do you think Sanchez is? He might be ok, he might be terrible, I can't see any scenario where he becomes a top of the rotation starter, so they shouldn't hesitate trading him for a win now player.

Honestly I am not a full supporter of sabermatics but Sanchez is very overrated on this forum. I'd take 3 months of Shark over Sanchez and Shark will probably have a higher WAR in those 3 months than Sanchez in 3 years

I wouldn't give that kind of talent away for a rental

Overrated? Most posters here hate him

Sabermetrics, what stats are you evaluating him on? He's only 22 and his era is lower than the guy you want to trade him for.

exactly....nobody on here likes Sanchez.

Bit of an oversimplification. I think most recognize that he is not currently anywhere near an effective starting pitcher, but hold out hope he can eke out a career with his very good GB rate. Probably best to sell him before all the shine rubs off, though.

He's 22 yrs old with a good arsenal of pitches. He has the time and talent to be a front end starter, but he needs to make a number of improvements. And he has been improving. There is a scenario.

Give me the odds that you think Sanchez turns into a #1 or #1a starter.

Eduardo Rodriguez (who I think is a lot better than Sanchez) was traded for 2 months of Andrew Miller who was a big part of their playoff run. You need to open your eyes and realize he's a guy they should be looking to deal for a rotation upgrade.
