My attitude, as you call it, simply comes from the perception of Canadians that Americans themselves have voiced. I can't help the ignorance of people who literally have said things just like that.

And honestly, some Americans I've encountered who don't carry their flag up their ass and actually know there is enjoyable life outside the states, have been some of the nicest people. It's only some, not all. But the some are doozies.

Not really related, but reminds me of a couple funny things I've heard Americans say back in my youth.

 

In the late 80's, early 90's I worked in a gas station along the QEW about halfway between Niagara Falls and Hamilton. Occasionally we'd of course get Americans coming in.

 

I was talking to an American woman who came in on Thanksgiving weekend and it came up that our Thanksgivings were of course on different days of the year.

Her next question was "So is your Christmas on a different day too?"

 

Another person came in one time asking for directions to Calgary as if he could get there in an hour or two. I was like WTF?

 

 

Back on topic, I wouldn't mind Paps if he didn't cost too much either. Hamels is unlikely due to his NTC as already mentioned.

You're such a complete tool. You're far more ignorant, with your misguided notions of superiority, than these mythical American viewpoints. Most Americans ... the great majority, in fact ... like Canada very much, and consider them "brothers and sisters," in the global scheme of things. Just like just about everyone, of course, they'll profess their love of where they're from ... whether that happens to be their country, their state, their town, or their street.

 

Except in rare cases, and outside of a few select "quirks" (colloquial differences), there's no real distinction between Americans and Canadians, beyond any random sampling of Americans themselves.

 

But what does exist, as is apparent, over and over and over and over again, anytime you get a group of Canadians around to discuss anything related to America, is that they will talk s*** about America, and talk down to their populace, generally. Basically, you guys are dickheads when it comes to national discussions (or anything that you can wrong-mindedly twist into a national discussion).

 

Some of our American yahoos have fun poking at the Canadian bear, with silly USA! chants, but there's very little animus there, at all. Compare that to the real view by many Canadians that they are morally, ethically, intellectually, and in all ways, awesomely superior to 'Muricans.

 

It's small penis syndrome. We're very similar, yet America has a far greater presence around the world. Media, business, geopolitical concerns ... America, for better or worse, is the center, or one of the centers, while Canadians, who consider themselves "comparable" (initially), are left to wonder "what about us? why not us?" And then all this "publicity" draws praise, and then the "haters," as you kids might call it ... and the jealousy kicks in. So the envy, turns in to jealousy, which manifests itself in trying to prove yourselves as good, or better than, the folks in the limelight. So, just as the power and prestige is amplified, so is the criticism.

 

Americans are no more narcissistic about our country as anyone else is about theirs ... it's just we have the stage, so to speak. Not unlike NYC inhabitants, as compared to other American cities. NYC getting all that credit and love and attention, eventually draws envious people to lash out (and this is coming from someone who despises much of NYC, having grown up pretty close to it).

 

To sum, all these "Americans suck and are stupidheads and are blah, blah, blah" attitudes will only act to make many dismiss you outright, even though we're pretty much all the same.

The Boston metro population is (well, as of 5 years ago) 4.55M (11th largest between the US and Canada), whilst Toronto's metro population is 5.58M (7th largest between the US and Canada). According to certain sources, Vancouver, SF and SD are all more expensive than Toronto, and smaller than Toronto, whilst Calgary is more expensive than Boston (which was 8th most expensive, behind all the aforementioned cities, plus NYC and LA. Boston isn't small, although it's spread out a bit (which is a good thing), but its cost of living is generally in line with its population rank.

 

 

I've read that Toronto as of 2014,has the 4th largest metropolitan population in north america, behind Mexico City , NY ,and Los Angeles .
