Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Author Posted June 27, 2015 After the 2nd inning he was topping out at 91/92 though I know, i just was pimping the guy. He's an "end rotation" guy ALA Paul Maholm
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Author Posted June 27, 2015 If you can throw 96 all day, sure. Not if you're 91-92 touching 96... I know, I just spoke about his peak speed.
LTR Verified Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Really don't know what to make of him from this start... no walks is great, K's were great, but the HRs. Seems to me he was a bit unlucky and did get squeezed by the ump a few times, so perhaps we can expect better. I think he may be able to help the team though.

He was fine and should be fine as a # 4/5. Bigger issue on this team is the lack of a top of the rotation starter.

Pitching has got to win you a few too when the bats aren't going.

It's not the umpire fault that the ball traveled that far, 3 times.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 The Jays' rotation is so uninspiring right now that if Boyd was their best SP for the rest of the year, most of us wouldn't even be that surprised

North of 60 Verified Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Can see him being a #4 starter at best.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 He was good today. No walks, high K's, and HR rate that won't stick even at Rogers Centre. He'll be fine. Whether he'll be fine for the Jays or another team a month from now is the question.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 2.89 xFIP today. ERA, FIP, xFIP, SIERA, PENIS no matter what............3 dingers are 3 dingers.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 It felt to me like Boyd was missing his spots a lot today (not unusual for a guy making his first start), and he doesn't have the raw stuff to do that a lot. The fact he's been able to keep the walks down while inducing a lot of whiffs suggests to me that the command is normally there in addition to the control. He actually kind of reminds me of Hutch (from the left side) when he first came up.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 ERA, FIP, xFIP, SIERA, PENIS no matter what............3 dingers are 3 dingers. Who cares? He won't give up three homers every time, not even close, that's what the predictive stats are trying to tell you. I'm much happier about his fantastic K/BB ratio and the induced swinging strikes than I am worried that he gave up a few homers.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 ERA, FIP, xFIP, SIERA, PENIS no matter what............3 dingers are 3 dingers. Whats the park adjusted dinger stat for a 3/game avg? He looked ok. 1 start. he deserves another. no BBs and good K rate.

The kid just need to keep the ball inside of the park, and the umpire doesn't have the fault.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 The one good thing we should say is BC he doesn't walk anybody all the homeruns he gave up.were solo shots
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I just rewatched his start, every pitch, all I could think was, holy s***, he was set up to fail, terrible framing by Navarro, and almost every AB, there was a solid strike he threw that was called a ball. The homeruns Moreland and Odor hit came off 3-1 counts where he basically grooved a fastball. Liked him though, basically Beuhrle with a decent fastball.

Do you need predictive stats to tell you a guy won't give up 3 homers per start? He seemed ok, and gets a definite pass for his major league debut. He's not a special pitcher but could be a good back end guy IMO. Still should be dealt soon.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 This is amazing, defending Sanchez like he's Chris Carpenter but Boyd does well and they're ready to ship him out because he gave up 3 homeruns in one game

reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Do you think Sanchez and Boyd gets you Hamels? No I don't. We have no idea what the Phillies are looking for, but I bet they hang up the phone if that's the offer.
