I know, that's why I said I was hoping.

If I were still hoping then I would have said I am hoping.

Thus concludes today's lesson.

Be nice. The guy's using Rosetta Stone.

Still a chance they send Norris to Buffalo for a month and give Estrada the 2 or 3 starts they need out of the #5 slot in April.

Drabek is out of options so they can either say bye or give him a spot. Same with Hendriks and Barnes.

I'm hoping Bo Schultz cracks the pen somehow (I was also hoping that Lopez would look good and grab a spot).

Jenkins should have no chance of cracking it given his role (redundant) + his options remaining.

Hendriks needs a spot too. He seems like the only one without options who would get claimed.

No excuse to put Castro on the 40 man roster with all the bullpen options available.

Unless they think Castro is head and shoulders better than all other options.

Which is highly unlikely because he's projected to be below replacement level.

Yeahhhh, but when it comes to an A ball starter moving to an MLB bullpen, you almost might want to trust your eyes over the projections.

I think RP Castro probably is head and shoulders above some of the names here. The biggest consideration is just his own development.

Where are these projections coming from? From what I've seen, his stuff looks pretty damn impressive.

Now part of me wants him to make the team so he can shove these projections up everyone's ass.

And given his age and body type, there's also a decent chance that 2015 Castro is physically a different/better pitcher than 2014 Castro (just another reason why projections might not have a lot of utility).

I'm curious Ang. Can you speak English as well or just write it? When I was taking German classes in high school it got to the point where I could only really write it.

Thanks to this forum I learned to speak, too.

To me it's easier to talk than to write in english.

I talked to Alex at the game today. Castro will be in Toronto to start the season, probably in the bullpen.

I know, I can't believe he still doesn't know English very well.

I'm quite against this, but I guess AA's trying to save his job.

If nothing else it is a bold experiment. The downside is if he could stick as a starter and they waste development time, or he gets type casted as a reliever(which I would consider the greater concern). He could end up providing surplus value while the Jays are close enough on the win curve to warrant the risk.

they need about 55 starts from the 4 and 5 starters. Sanchez and Norris cant pitch that many innings. Castro can get his innings limit from the pen. As long as he is getting bullpen sessions working on his secondary pitches it can work out just fine going forward.

It would have been nice to have 2 of the three starting in AAA, but Stroman being out for the year changed a lot of the plans.

That's basically my opinion. Though I would say Castro was going to make this team regardless, I think the plan was for Sanchez to be the fifth starter all along. I imagine AA wanted to keep Norris down for control reasons, but Norris may force his hand with Stroman down. My money would still be that Norris starts in the minors, but since his problem is inning limits I don't know how many AA would want to waste in AAA. If he doesn't stay down long enough to gain a year of control, Those innings are effectively wasted.

And everyone knows projections are reality in. Baseball even if they are constructed using a faulty subjective allocation base

castro makes the team, first pitch blows his elbow, spends first season of control on the DL. That's the blue jays way.

I can not see any other scenario play out than this.

Sounds about right.

You guys are so melodramatic. Maybe he does well and in 2016 he moves into the starting rotation after they trade Sanchez for a controllable mif
