Jayzfan79 Verified Member Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 do you guys think the Jays have something brewing (Stroman, Hutch, Norris, Sanchez) ala the Braves (Maddux, Avery, Glavine, Smoltz) during their dynasty run? was just thinking of this since they are all in that same age bracket and have high upside?
43211234 Verified Member Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 No. The Blue Jays have some great young arms but it's ridiculous to compare them to a group that contains one of the best pitchers of all time and two other hall of famers.
baseballsss Verified Member Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I'm sure as much as everybody hopes this will happen...it just won't.

Chamon now, 3 HOF are not coming out of Norris/Sanchez/Hutch/Stroman
fireballW Verified Member Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Everything I read about Stroman made me think he could be one of the best pitchers in baseball. I really think Norris will be fantastic as well. Sanchez is almost as good as a bust to me already. Hutch will be solid but HOF caliber player obviously.
fireballW Verified Member Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 So what I was trying to say is no, no they won't.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 do you guys think the Jays have something brewing (Stroman, Hutch, Norris, Sanchez) ala the Braves (Maddux, Avery, Glavine, Smoltz) during their dynasty run? was just thinking of this since they are all in that same age bracket and have high upside? Odd are that it's no but since there's no fun in that, I'm going to say yes with Sanchez being the Avery of the group.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Halladay, Carpenter, and Escobar will be as close as the Jays get to having three starters with that upside. The Braves were a once in a lifetime situation. I don't think we will live to see that again. Maybe two HOF's in one rotation but three is insane.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Really no buddy on here really knows... So any statement may or may not be right at this time... That's why we play the games! Momma let em play... Thier still in there first pair of shoes ummm cleats!

Calling Sanchez a bust is sort of, kind of ridiculous.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Calling Sanchez a bust is sort of, kind of ridiculous. It's easy to get down on Sanchez because he's been around awhile and has mostly underperformed but a lot of that gets skewed by the fact that he played his first season in the Jays system at 17, not even college age. He'll still only be 22 this season about the same age as a college senior. It's very easy to lose sight of that. I know I certainly have.
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Idiotic thread, not only do you ask if we can predict the future, the chances of our young pitchers to end up producing a couple hall of famers is incredibly unlikely. Stop dreaming.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Stop dreaming. Why? It's fun to dream. Un unlikely scenario isn't an impossible one and a dream doesn't have to be mistaken for an expectation.
Jayzfan79 Verified Member Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 3 HOFs vs 3 random dudes 23 years ago they were also just 4 random dudes.
Praxis Verified Member Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I remember when 5 years ago people were saying similar things about Marcum, Romero, Cecil and Morrow.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I remember when 5 years ago people were saying similar things about Marcum, Romero, Cecil and Morrow. Just out of curiosity, how many of those guys ever made it into the top 50 on any prospect list?
Praxis Verified Member Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Just out of curiosity, how many of those guys ever made it into the top 50 on any prospect list? Don't know, don't care. cf 2010 season: WAR: Marcum (13-8): 3.9 Morrow (10-7): 1.6 Romero (14-9): 3.1 Cecil (15-7): 2.1 The new, good young rotation was well on the way apparently.
Jayzfan79 Verified Member Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 No. The Blue Jays have some great young arms but it's ridiculous to compare them to a group that contains one of the best pitchers of all time and two other hall of famers. again, the comparison is within the similarities. saying "oh they have all these HoFers its ridiculous" is moot. we don't know the end result of these Jays pitchers....they could all be busts, but at the same time they can all click (++ with Martin as the receiver) and have one hell of a run. We know what Stroman and Hutch have done and are only going to get better, as well as Norris and Sanchez (not to mention Hoffman coming up) have been touted as being quite special as well. i'd like to think we may have something special here and over the next 10-15 years.

BTS Community Moderator Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Man I loved Shaun Marcum. Guy was a bulldog, and pretty unique/fun to watch.
Praxis Verified Member Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 These are BBref numbers, I assume Yep, fair point. Fangraphs (WAR): Marcum (13-8): 3.5 Morrow (10-7): 3.6 Romero (14-9): 3.7 Cecil (15-7): 2.5
Jayzfan79 Verified Member Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 once Stroman is back and Hoffman is called up, can you imagine a fearsome 5some of Stroman, Hutch, Norris, Sanchez, Hoffman? sick.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 once Stroman is back and Hoffman is called up, can you imagine a fearsome 5some of Stroman, Hutch, Norris, Sanchez, Hoffman? sick. Until two of them bust and another has his career derailed by injuries.
