Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 What's he supposed to say? "Well f***, there goes 15'" Like the rest of these chicken littles. I admire your positivity through thick and thin... the problem is that we aren't a 90 win projected team, we are the same 84 win projected team we know and love. Stroman was a key, in that he had the capability of producing a 6 win season -- our projections probably had him at 3, but a lot of fans dreamed that Stroman could be better than that and push the win total into the high 80s. Giving us a realistic chance. Now no Stroman. So we move back to 80-81 win projected... and we lose the guy fans felt could push us 3 or 4 wins above projections. So Tuesday morning - 84 wins with a possibly special pitcher that could push us to 87 Wednesday morning - 81 wins and harder to see the path that leads us above projection. So mentally this is a 6 win swing for a lot of fans. 87 yesterday, 81 today.
StroShow Verified Member Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 The way he short-changed Estrada was kinda funny. Krylian with the expert journalism kinda shortchanged Dickey on what he said. There was a pause with a few "and"'s, but he followed it up with "...and have a good year".

glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 This kind of thinking is extremely short sighted and ignoring what's best in the long-term to chase a longshot is tomfoolery. The reality is - a lot of the young pitchers they have aren't ready to perform in the Majors sir. I think the plan all along was Norris in AAA, Sanchez in the pen, and Estrada in the rotation. With Stroman out, there's really not much else they can do. Norris is their fourth best starter right now.

What the magic number of innings a guy needs in AAA for you to consider him MLB ready? I don't really give a f*** about anyone's arb clock, if that player is the best option I want to see him on the MLB roster. This team is loaded with pitching prospects. I don't see the need for concern if one or two of them get here a little quicker than expected.
Governator Community Moderator Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Last year we were 10 games above .500 at end of May with no 2B, Francisco at 3B and no Stroshow. Things can happen.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 steamer finally has norris as a full starter now and have him at 1.8 war/200 ip. Less than a 2 win downgrade from stroman. 1.8 war/200 ip = 1.2 war 140 ip

Steamer has Sanchez - 111IP, 4.29fip, 4.3bb/9, 7.71/9, 0.4WAR ZiPS has Sanchez - 127.7IP, 4.77fip, 4.9bb/9, 7.1k/9, 0.0WAR I still think those are both being nice to Sanchez if he were to be a starter lol

Sanchez's minor league performance suggests he's not ready to be a starter in the big leagues (in fact is suggests he isn't even close). There is no magic number of innings a guys needs in AAA before he's considered MLB ready; however, history suggests the vast majority of pitchers need more than 58 innings pitched above A ball before they are ready to be successful in the majors (which is how many Norris has pitched). You don't care about a players arbitration clock because you're a short sighted fan.

In real games, they should practice with pitches that they are developing, therefore, results or stats will not be favorable. Sanchez will destroy those projections.

Pretty much what Sanchez did when they tweaked his arm slot(?) in Buffalo. Just threw all fastballs to try and harness his pitches. I'll take a Blanton with an elite GB%
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Reyes 1B Santiago 1B Bautista Fly out Smoak RBI GB Pillar RBI 2B Hutch 2IP 1BB 0R 0H 0K Thanks..

Maybe Sanchez will improve, but when ur walking 5bb/9 u will fail 99.99%%%%%

Sanchez might not be ready but that doesn't mean some others are not. If by being a short sighted fan you mean I'm not going to worry about what's going on 6 years from now, I guess I am.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 If it makes anyone feel a little bit better at all Hutch through 4 solid innings of work (4IP, 0R, 2H, 1BB, 2Ks).
