Gorlak Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I don't think AA will acquire any player that would come at a cost greater than Navarro. I imagine he will dig through other teams trash for depth, But this just pushed Pillar into a starter role. Although they will push Dirks to fill the gap.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Navarro=free Melky-14M or less Saunders Man I must be one poor bastard if 5 million dollars is basically free.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Valencia in LF is pointless. Pillar is a better option than him. My fear is Valencia in LF, Navarro at DH, and Edwin at 1B. Like I said, the way this team operated last season, they'll play video game lineups to avoid spending money.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Edwin to LF Smoak to 1B Barton to DH Navarro to closer
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I like the Viciedo idea. He's not good but at least has some upside and is still young. Might be an OK stop gap.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 C Martin 1B Barton 2B Travis SS Donaldson 3B Edwin LF Reyes CF Pompey RF Bautista DH Smoak I was digging this lineup until I read "SS - Donaldson." If we had Lawrie, we could still move him to SS. Donaldsontradesucked.jpg At least OF isn't a particularly difficult position to fill. If we REALLY have budget room like Beeston said, no reason not to trade for Shane Victorino. Or Allen Craig but eh.
Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 C Martin 1B Barton 2B Travis SS Donaldson 3B Edwin LF Reyes CF Pompey RF Bautista DH Smoak Why do I like the look of this?
baloojayz Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 C Martin 1B Barton 2B Travis SS Donaldson 3B Edwin LF Reyes CF Pompey RF Bautista DH Smoak Cool, too bad Gibby would never think of that.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 C Martin 1B Barton 2B Travis SS Donaldson 3B Edwin LF Reyes CF Pompey RF Bautista DH Smoak lol Barton 1B over Collabelo?
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 @ShiDavidi: #BlueJays say Michael Saunders tore meniscus in knee. Out to all star break What the hell did he do in ST to do this? Geez this guy is injury prone.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 What the hell did he do in ST to do this? Geez this guy is injury prone. Stepped on a sprinkler. Good chance his cleat caught and it caused his knee to do something funky.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 WOW! cf Unacceptable if the condition in LF was like that.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 lol Barton 1B over Collabelo? Collabelo doesn't get on-base and only had two hot weeks last year and cooled off drastically. Barton gets on-base and has a glove!
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Barton league average hitter and elite 1B defender. So what, 0 runs offense/run, 20 replacement, -7.5 1B. That's like, 1 win and change, so with defense.. Maybe a 2 win player?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Barton league average hitter and elite 1B defender. Sarcasmo dominicano. I really like Barton. Élite plate discipline and GG caliber defense.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Unacceptable if the condition in LF was like that. There's a photo ITT. Field looks pretty bad.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 There's a photo ITT. Field looks pretty bad. How the hell do they allow players to practice on a field like that? The front office should use their brains!!!!!!
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Or just download Steamer600 and lookup Barton's WAR to find 2.0. Except that mental math took about 1.48 seconds. Steamer is useless!!!
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO who are you?

GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Remember kids, Steamer is gospel! Oh goody, another one who doesn't understand projections! Please, tell us more about the 15 players Steamer got very wrong last year and how it completely invalidates everything we believe about baseball.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Not at all, I work in finance, and am very appreciative of projections. But some of you gents need to realize that there's a lot more to the game than projections and Steamer methodology. If this is going to turn into a "watch the game!" debate, I'm pretty sure JFaS watches 90% more baseball than most of us.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Definitely not buying Barton as a 2-win player.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Kyle Farnsworth Is this a joke that I'm not supposed to understand?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Definitely not buying Barton as a 2-win player. He has a career 102 wRC+. 20 runs replacement. 0 runs offense. 0 runs defense. -7.5 positional adjustment for 1B. You're left with 12.5 runs. So he'd need to be a 7.5 win defender. That's a lot to ask, but it's certainly reasonable that he could approach 2 wins over a full season. I mean, he has a career WAR/600 of a little over 2.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Use the best available data and draw conclusions from it, not base your whole life's work (or in this case message board heroism) on trends found within. If the board actually did that then we all would've gone f***ing nuts about not signing Johan Santana during last offseason when he was projected for like 3-4 wins.

Slugger Verified Member Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Man I'm so disappointed.... I'm conflicted between blaming the FO for still being in that dump Dunedin, maybe Saunders for being fragile as glass, or the the grounds crew. So lame, at least when Maicer went down nobody gave a s*** seeing as Maicer is f***ing useless on or off the field but god damn, not Saunders Yeah, that .330 OBP so f***in' useless.
