Injuries happen

But when management gives no consideration to depth the result is AAAA players getting 400 at bats.

How handy would ichiro had been now.

You guys think this is bad. Wait till a pen arm goes down. And here is Redmond to close out the ninth.

We got rid of all 3 of Melky, Colby and Gose and acquired Saunders to be our every LF and presumed Pompey was ready to take over every day, with Pillar as our only real backup. Not a good depth position we had there...

This video perfectly outlines how his news hit me this morning (and likely all Jays fans):

Holly s***. That was one hell of a prank. Seem kind of... unsafe?

Miami or Cubs need a catcher?

This also is why I wanted to sign one of Denoforia or Suzuki for depth ! Crap

They both went cheap too! Now they will cost!

Who might get a break from the minors and run with it?

Sadly AA will do nothing to fill his spot. I feel bad for Saunders though. I don't expect him back this season. ASB seems a bit optomistic to me. Its a 6-8 month injury. We would be lucky to see him walking on a treadmill in mid July.

Regular recovery time or Derrick Rose recovery time?

I know it's a key injury but this really does expose the depth situation. You'd have to expect to be missing two outfielders during some point of the season. Who comes after pillar?

yep, saw this coming not surprised at all. Always an issue with the Jays.

So what of the suggestion put out by Gregor Chisolm that Dirks could be healthy enough in the mix? On the surface, that's a positive. He's still estimated to be7-10 days from baseball activities but that's a lot closer than most of us thought. Should we take some solace in this or just assume a "I'll believe it when I see it" stance?

Last season this team played Juan Francisco at 3B. I shudder to think what creative plans they have to cover injuries this year.

Not sure what the point of Valencia playing LF is. Pillar is going to be playing there vs LHP so there won't be Abs for him.

Right handed bats really aren't an issue especially with Navarro still around. A healthy Dirks is a potential godsend.

Maybe Juan has a brother?

Anyones recovery time. Unless hes super human. This isn't the first time the Blue Jays have announced an injury and the player ended up coming back much later or not until the next year.

Super human means coming back before your arbitrary recovery time? Phase III of rehabilitation is generally 3 months after surgery, so if he were to undergo surgery right now that will take him to late May. The All-Star game is mid July.

The depth is admirable, with Pillar/Dirks/Dickerson and Cabrera. Saunders has a black cloud following him everywhere, tough luck.

No, he's rehabbing in the minor league camp, supposed to be ready in 7-10 days.

heughm... didn't everyone here reminded us that it's ok if he's injured because he'll still bring us 2WAR as long as he plays the second half healthy. amiright stat geeks? We can just stick a replacement player there for 80 games and we're good to go because Russel Martin makes up for that.

I don't even...

I was thinking of Alex Guerrero as well. His bat looks legit but he's probably not an infielder. Stick him in LF and watch him hit. Only problem is dealing with Friedman.

I LOVE this idea. Make it happen AA.

I'm assuming they dug it up and fixed it after he got injured? It couldn't have been like that before, how could he miss that.

At this point, Viciedo should probably be paying teams to sign him. In 500 career games, he's a -0.1 fWAR, and was -0.7 fWAR last year. Heck, aside from the ability to hit home runs, his bat doesn't even play as a DH.

there's a higher bar for DH, Should have went with "his bat doesn't even play at shortstop".

Also just moves a worse hitter into 1st or DH spots.
