TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 I thought the Giants may miss Sandoval this year but nope, Duffy's year is better than any of Panda's final 3 with the Giants. Also, for some LOLs: Pablo Sandoval, 86 wRC+, -1.2 WAR, 5 years - 95 Million Now go take a look at Hanley's numbers.
baubau Verified Member Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Now go take a look at Hanley's numbers. Wow... -1.1 WAR. If he was used purely as a DH or 2B he may have better numbers cause his DRS is at -17 in LF. So the Sox are paying Sandoval $17M and Hanley $22M, combined $39M for -2.3 WAR. Castillo isn't doing so hot either and think he is being platooned to face only LHP. Love it. Just love it.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 What's so beautiful about it is that Hanley and Pablo rank #1 and #2 in worst WAR in the league. That's money well spent right there.
baubau Verified Member Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Boston entered the season with what seemed like a historic surplus of productive hitters. Now everyone sucks and they're desperate for guys to step up. Sandoval and Hanley are more average regulars than stars, Papi has taken a step back, Castillo might not be any good, Pedroia is hurt again, their catching situation is a mess (Swihart can't hit at all), Jackie Bradley and Allen Craig are awful, Bogaerts somehow has no power, etc. What an amazing different four months can make. Don't forget, 5 aces as well. It is actually crazy how much of a drop off Allen Craig had. He is the Ricky Romero of hitters. Socks still have Bogaerts and Betts plus a pretty deep farm so I don't feel too bad for them.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 I have no regrets, I wouldn't have minded Pablo. The guy had a good track record.

Don't forget the Porcello extension and the Masterson signing. Those two have combined to give them 174 innings of exactly replacement level production. Masterson was just DFA'd, and Porcello is now on the DL. Another move they made, that we all thought was a smart buy-low signing, was Ogando, who's given them -0.9 fWAR out of the pen. Barnes, Castillo and JBJ have been atrocious, Bogaerts and Betts lead the team despite having league-average bats, and Swihart so far has played like a backup catcher, not a particularly good one at that. All of the Red Sox free agent signings have tanked, and their universally lauded farm system has given an extremely lack-luster first impression at the major league level.

I thought it was between Panda or Headley.

Hanley could be a stud DH, would keep him healthier as well.

Followthelight Verified Member Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Wasn't there a Boston Writer who wrote an article saying the Pablo and the Sox signings were better then the Jays in the offseason? lol.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 AA doesn't give a f*** about availability Future Blue Jay Mike Trout.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Matt Boyd on the mound for the Tigers. Let's see if he can back up his last outing.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 So far so bad for Boyd. 2 pitches and 2 hits already. Sound familiar?
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 2-0 already. Royals hitters see Boyd's fastball like a beach ball...
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Tolu plus Edwin plus Osuna for Trout.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Yeah, not so good this time around against the Royals.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Matt Boyd getting rocked. not surprised.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Yeah, not so good this time around against the Royals. Suddenly, AA is looking smarter for that deal.. though Norris might still pan out.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Suddenly, AA is looking smarter for that deal.. though Norris might still pan out. It was literally 5.1 innings.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 He struck out 6 and walked one, lol
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Matt Boyd getting rocked. not surprised. 1.41 FIP and 3.28 xFIP Terrible, just terrible.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 He had one shaky inning and then settled in nicely after that..he has what it takes. Would've liked to see him develop more as a Jay, Norris too.. but oh well.
