Gregg Zaun is smiling somewhere

Half smiling, maybe. It takes a lot more abuse and bullying for Zauny to smile.

Maybe if they stripped Noah naked and took turns kicking him in the nuts, then Zaun would be in heaven. Play the game the right way, rookie.

Also in this #Braves post: Freddie Freeman says he met with the front office to get better feel for direction of team http://es.pn/1FWieFG

Not that the Braves would trade him away, but what would you guys give up for him?

I'd give Sanchez + two of Nay, Pentecost, Osuna, + one of top 5-top 10 prospect

also depends on salary eaten. perfect guy for this team. lefty bat and despite high K's, great .OBP. Great goggle game too.

He's really good and all but you essentially get EE like production for 16.5 AAV. Which is probably double what Eddie is getting now.

I'd give up a lot.

7 years remaining on his contract, which runs from his age 25 to 31 seasons. As a true talent 4 win player who shouldn't even start declining until the last couple of years of the deal, Freeman could be "worth" upwards of $200M dollars while getting paid about $130M.

They could have Sanchez + Hoffman to start. Probably also a couple of guys like Nay, Osuna, or Castro.

Freeman and Donaldson basically means you have the post Bautisata/Encarnacion offensive core already in place not to mention you get a couple of years where all four are under control and still in their prime. It's a bit of a pipe dream but you never know with the way John Hart has been going.

You know we've been so spoiled with Bau/E5 that it's kind of scary to see what kind of offensive void we'll have in 2 years.

Getting Donaldson was huge in terms of reducing the teams utter dependance on those two.

It's hard for me to see Rogers letting them walk, but two years from now they'll probably be much different players (worse).

Bautista will be 36 though, so getting him extended at a reasonable price shouldn't be too hard, if he's still productive. And then Edwin is his homie so maybe locking Ed up would be even easier as a result of having Bautista grey-beard under contract.

Syndergaard owns up to clubhouse lunch gaffe

A day after Mets veterans David Wright and Bobby Parnell addressed Noah Syndergaard for eating in the clubhouse during a game, the rookie apologized for actions that he called "straight-up ignorance on my part."

"It was just really a mistake on my part," Syndergaard said. "It was a learning experience for me. I should have been on the bench."

During the middle innings of Tuesday's intrasquad game at Tradition Field, Syndergaard, who was not scheduled to pitch, ducked into the clubhouse and sat down to eat. Wright was already out of the game, and when the captain spotted Syndergaard, he scolded him for not being on the bench supporting his teammates. Parnell then walked over, grabbed Syndergaard's lunch and threw it in the trash.

"I thought it was OK," Syndergaard said. "I thought there would be a difference -- it wasn't me being in there with my feet up watching TV. I was just grabbing a quick bite to eat. I learned from that mistake, and next time, it won't happen again."

In his second big league camp at age 22, Syndergaard spoke with Wright again early Wednesday morning to clear up any lingering ill will.

"He didn't want me to think him and Bobby were picking on me," Syndergaard said. "He just wanted to make it clear they care about me, they want me to be a part of the team, because they think I can contribute in the future."

"You see something that can help a player out and you say it," said Wright, the Mets' captain for the past two seasons. "It's the way that we get on each other that maybe some people don't get or understand. But I've got three younger brothers. It's the way that I'd get on them, and that's what it's like in here. You have some older brothers and you have some younger brothers. If you see something that can ultimately help them, or help the team, you get on them a little bit. And we wouldn't do it to somebody that we didn't think could take it, or that we didn't think was one of us. I like Noah. I've gotten to know Noah over the last couple of years. He's one of us."

It was a lesson, Wright said, that he would not hesitate to deliver again -- though he apologized to Syndergaard for delivering this one in such a public setting.

"There was no chastising going on," Wright said. "I was giving a guy a hard time. I do most things with a smile on my face, or I like to think I do. There was nothing malicious."

lol Noah

Eddie signed when he was a breath away from free agency last time and for a very reasonable cost. He's seems nothing if not amenable.

man if someone took my sandwich and threw it in the garbage I'd be pretty livid. That's overstepping, Bobby. Can't you put that s*** in the fridge?

I understand Wright's actions here to an extent. I think his goals were genuine and positive for a cohesive team.

Parnell comes off as a huge dickhead here considering Noah will destroy him in career performance, maybe this year too. Who does this s*****, oft injured piece of s*** think he is? If I were Sandy Alderson, I'd tell that scrub to f*** off with his aggressive ******** and know his role.

Wright's been around for awhile, if he saw a breach in clubhouse etiquette he probably did Syndergaard a favour by pointing it out. As a perceived team leader, Wright is expected, rightly or wrongly, to police the locker room no matter how silly that can look from the outside. Parnell throwing the sandwich in the trash though just seems like unnecesary piling on. Basically a veteran going out of his way to throw weight around and show up a rookie. Like does he honsetly think his two cents are really needed when the face of the franchise was already involved?

No one deserves to get humiliated for a perfectly innocent mistake. We've all probably been there at some point in our lives and probably have no difficulty remembering how crummy it feels.

It's been well documented that Mantle never got over the shoddy treatment he got from Dimagio and he made sure not to treat rookies like crap throughout his career because of it. So even that far back, a total bad ass like Mantle could see this kind of stuff for the ******** it is. Edited by KingKat

You put it more eloquently than I did, but agreed 100%.

Billy Bean flawlessly responds to Murphy:

After reading his comments, I appreciate that Daniel spoke his truth. I really do. I was visiting his team, and a reporter asked his opinion about me. He was brave to share his feelings, and it made me want to work harder and be a better example that someday might allow him to view things from my perspective, if only for just a moment.

I respect him, and I want everyone to know that he was respectful of me. We have baseball in common, and for now, that might be the only thing. But it’s a start.

The silver lining in his comments are that he would be open to investing in a relationship with a teammate, even if he “disagrees” with the lifestyle. It may not be perfect, but I do see him making an effort to reconcile his religious beliefs with his interpretation of the word lifestyle. It took me 32 years to fully accept my sexual orientation, so it would be hypocritical of me to not be patient with others.

Inclusion means everyone, plain and simple. Daniel is part of that group. A Major League clubhouse is now one of the most diverse places in sports. It wasn’t always that way, but we can thank No. 42 for that. So in his honor, with a little patience, compassion and hard work, we’ll get there.

I don't understand the hate against Murphy and people who hate on him cause of his comments are just as close-minded as people who are homophobic.

The guy was brought up with Christian teaching. You can't just shut that off, especially when you're that religious.

Would you rather have Murphy come out and say he supports gays and lie to everyone? I appreciate his honesty.

If you guys are so open to hate on Murphy, then I truly await the time when Norris is asked the very same question.

I would prefer that Murphy had done what most racists do: keep his ignorance and bigotry to himself.

You can hate on Murphy for being outspoken but really what you're doing is denying his belief system (which is obviously flawed). Christiananity is the most popular belief system in the world, this has little to do with Murphy and more to do with anyone in that religious circle.

Christian teaching in the most general terms says to accept homosexuals in the community but not to accept their lifestyle as it is "incompatible with obedience to the will of God as revealed in Scripture."

This is not Christian at all. Christian teaching is to stone homosexuals to death. Source: the bible.

Mike Minor scratched with shoulder tightness. I'd love to see the Barves get absolutely hammered with pitching injuries again.

How about that Marcus Semien? Although the numbers are inflated by Arizona, he's already up to 7 RBIs this spring, and is really impressing in Oakland's spring training. Of course, we'll have to see if he does that in the regular season..

But devil's advocate here - why Can't Billy Bean do the same? Sexual orientation has no bearing in the workplace, anywhere.

Oh great, Atlanta wrecked another arm? I mean, they already ruined Beachy and Medlen.

I have no idea what you mean by this. What is Bean doing that he shouldn't be?

Why is the Daniel Martin thing a story? There are a tonne of Evangelical's in sports, there are many more Muslims. I'm sure almost none of them would agree with homosexuality. So why is this one guy a story?
