And the Milwaukee game is getting nuttier.. it's 16-10 and former Jay Jeremy Jeffress is pitching ATM..

Moose gives KC the lead with an RBI single to left field with 2 out in the bottom of the 8th. Here comes Wade Davis.

Royals are a weird team.

Don't strike-out, don't walk, don't hit that many HR.

Second in baseball in runs scored (next to your Toronto Blue Jays)... they are hitting for average and stealing bases though. Billy Beane would be displeased.

?? Why would Billy Beane be displeased. The Royals are first in on base percentage.

On base percentage is life. Not walks. The best way to get a good on base percentage is with a good team average.

Hitting .240 with a tonne of walks and power works. Hitting .300 (as a team) with speed also works.

It's hitting .250 without walks that doesn't work, even if you have speed.

Not sure if a .300 team average is maintable... maybe .280.

I never understood how so many people missed what Billy Beane was doing. Billy Beane wasn't married to OBP.....he was simply looking for underrated value. He looked for skill sets that were grossly undervalued and underrated by the rest of baseball. During the Moneyball era - that was OBP. Over the past 3-4 years, it's been guys with big platoon splits...

I've been amazed at how many times this flawed argument comes up. For the most part the good A's teams have had really good on base percentages... well just like most good teams.

The entire point of getting guys with good platoon splits is to get the team on base percentage up.

The entire point of hitting for a good average is getting the team on base percentage up.

The entire point of getting good defensive players is to get the other guys team on base percentage down.

You have to get on base more than the other guys.... that's the game. Yes there are different ways to achieve that goal... but everything Billy Beane does is about on base percentage and/or the opponents on base percentage.

What I am trying to say is this. There are two camps the on base percentage camp and the ******** camp.

The on base percentage camp believes in on base percentage (for and/or against) no matter how they say it. They might talk pitch framing, well OK the point out of that is keep the other guys off base... they might talk defense (keep the other guys off base)... or contact (hit for high average get on base)... or walks (get on base)...

then there's the ******** camp who says that on base percentage differential doesn't matter if you have clutch hitting and Ryan Goins and play the game the right way and get rbis and have veteran presence then you will win. There are still a lot of those guys.

So George Springer struck out on a 4-2 count yesterday...

Absolute butchery. As much as Bucknor deserves to be s*** on for being such a f***ing retard, what the hell was Springer doing? The batter should know what count he's in, and the fact that nobody from the Astros called it out tells me that they deserve this to happen against them.

It was just a joke. The movie made him out to be very simplistic, not wanting his guys to steal bases, etc. The Royals are definitely getting on base, even w/o the walks.

That's very strange. Kind of illustrates Springer's early struggles this year. Kid must be lost mentally.

Sorry I missed the joke... Sometimes it is hard to tell. I just check the board quickly these days.

A year ago when I was more into posting there was a huge long running argument about Ryan Goins and wether he would get 1 WAR... or maybe it was 2.

Ashby didn't comment on it either. It's really weird that no one was paying attention.

Dustin McGowan is starting on Thursday for the Phillies and possibly for the foreseeable future, as Sean O'Sullivan is on the DL. Expect McGowan to join on the DL shortly...

Guess he will throw a CG shutout now that he isn't on the Jays.

Or blow out his elbow, whichever comes first. Wasn't there a reason he was yanked from starting?
