dineke Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Stephen Strasburg was labeled "the greatest pitching prospect EVER" at the time he was drafted. The pithing game is so fickle. Didn't they say that about Matt Moore too?
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Remember the hype was pretty crazy. Recall some people, not specifically on this forum, having debates between Strasburg vs Kershaw. That debate came crashing down fast haha. Maybe he will end up like AJB and stick around and be effective longer than we think? Still wont ever be what many predicted.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Stras could actually be a steal as a free agent. By talent, he's probably a top ~5 pitcher in the game but he hasn't achieved a reputation anywhere close to that because of the injuries and the narrative.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Maybe he will end up like AJB and stick around and be effective longer than we think? Still wont ever be what many predicted. Have you ever even looked at his stats? He's phenomenal. Everything the Nats could have hoped for, honestly. They'll end up getting over 20 WAR from him in 6 years, maybe as much as 24. Can't dream of much more than that from a pitcher in 6 years of control.

I was referring to performance vs expectations from the narrative around his entry in the league. I know what he has been. too bad injuries have slowed him down some. He has nasty stuff.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Didn't they say that about Matt Moore too? I remember people putting him in the same group as Trout and Harper in prospect rankings. His stuff just never came back.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 I remember people putting him in the same group as Trout and Harper in prospect rankings. His stuff just never came back. It was Harper 1, Trout 2, Moore 3, but I don't think they were even close. Well, Harper 1 wasn't close. Trout had an awful September and Moore was lights out so they were close.

I didn't think many people had Moore above 3 but he was still in that top 3 tier.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 I'll gladly give Strasburg 5 years 110 with a opt out after year 3. Attractive deal for both sides
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Didn't they say that about Matt Moore too? yet every team let him slide through the first 7 rounds.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 I'll gladly give Strasburg 5 years 110 with a opt out after year 3. Attractive deal for both sides That kind of deal makes sense. If he can stay healthy he is still dominant.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 That kind of deal makes sense. If he can stay healthy he is still dominant. Even if he only pitches 130-150 ip that deal would still be good but I doubt he signs anything like that. Some dumn dumn will give him 6/180 and be angry for the duration of that contract because they gave into Boras
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Well I remember prospect guys saying they were the clear top 3. I didn't think many people had Moore above 3 but he was still in that top 3 tier. Nevermind Trout was #1 on MLB.com I'm just stupid

So disjointed and stilted. Seemingly no editor looked at this either. I'm pretty sure I bitched about him before too. Anyway, back to the regularly scheduled loling: Dusty Baker to replace Matt Williams as Nationals manager.

MLB Network was saying Black was there manager last night, what a mess? They also reported that their very own Mark DeRosa was going to be the Marlins manager, until talks heated up and they signed Mattingly. Haha!!
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Can you get a manager that is worse than Williams...... Well the Nats are sure going to f***ing try.
