I want roboumps because rules need to be enforced correctly. But also I want to see a particularly irate player start giving it to an oblivious StrikeTron 3000 right on the field (and then maybe a post-game interview about how machines can be wrong too).

 

(This of course depends on if roboumps actually are four Lost in Space-style robots right on the field with the players, just like our human umps now. Hopefully they go full slapstick and give them protective masks over their robo brains that flip up so the offended player can shout into it. Maybe even add an extendo-arm with a big red boxing glove to bop the player on the nose clownishly.)

I doubt he's ever been squeezed that badly either. The guy has elite plate discipline. It's highly unusual (fishy) for all the calls to go against him like that. He kept his composure through all that for a really long time but nobody can blame him for finally saying something (and making it worth his while when he finally decides to confront the ump).

It seemed to the broadcasters that he asked for time on that K pitch and wasn't given it either and got tossed after telling his manager. Then he lost his s***. His helmet smash is almost at Lawrie's level but in a smarter direction.

I don't understand why the ump tossed Votto for calling out the manager. Isn't that the best thing he could have done in that situation. Umps need to realize the game isnt about them. I'm tired of all the ump shows we've been seeing this year.

people on here like to say Votto's contract is dead weight, and to some degree what 10 year contract isn't. There's certainly huge risk, but I could see votto being a very productive hitter until his late 30s....guy just cares too much and is so cerebral that I think he won't look as bad as people think at age 38 or 39 making 25 mil.

If he can still field in his late 30s he might have value but it's still going to be a negative value contract. I don't think his on base ability will disappear but the power most likely will fade a bit.

This. It's September and if you're not in the playoff picture you're barely a footnote at this point in the season. Individual performances are evaluated afterward, might have been different if Washington tightened things with the Mets this week.

Except for 2006, Delgado never played for a winner... cheap ownership at the time and the Yanks dynasty didn't help. 1998 was the closest he got as a Blue Jay to the postseason.. ruined by the Yanks 114 win season (we'll never see anyone reach that again with increased parity in the game.)
