How long until Matt Williams joins Bud Black on the unemployment line, which also has spots reserved for John Farrell, Ben Cherington, Lloyd McClendon and Jack Z? Nats are losing again.. they continue to underperform badly.

C'mon man, I'm interested to hear about your interest in mascots.

Well, that didn't last long.

What a golden arm Betances has. Dude has 1.6 war in 33 innings not including today

Let's just hope Girardi doesn't Scott Proctor him and run him to the ground.. he was used for a 5-out save tonight, showing a lack of confidence in the Yankees pen.

David Murphy's now pitching for the Indians. 2nd night in a row we've seen a team use 2 position players to pitch. Neither Murphy or Raburn were effective. It's 17-0 now.

Wish SN had picked the Rangers/Dodgers game.. don't really care for the Mariners right now with the team struggling so badly, regardless of the fact King Felix and MadBum are pitching.

Anyone else getting annoyed with the constant "AL East has never been this wide open" spiel?

As it stands the AL East is tied for most wins in baseball with 169.

Doesn't that suggest a lot of parity?

It's not an especially telling stat. But AL East teams are winning a lot, especially lately (other than Boston... rofl).

That's my point, everyone is winning meaning the AL East is wide open. I guess it depends how you interpret it.

It's not necessarily a bad division as some were suggesting early in the season. It's kind of like the entire AL; a lot of decent teams, with no one team separating themselves from everyone else.

I just see 4 pretty good teams duking it out (even Boston should be way better)... it's like a boxing match right now... someone's gonna get weaker and fall... with one man standing in the end (obvious analogy I know).

I don't see Toronto of coming out on top with our pitching... maybe a WC spot if we're lucky.

People who are saying that the AL East is a s*** division or an easy division this year are morons. It's ********. The AL East is head and shoulders above every other division in the game right now, and the only reason the standings are close is because of the parity throughout the division, and the fact that they've been beaten the s*** out of each other.

Divisions ranked based on PythagenPat (adjusted standings using run differential):

1) ALE: 170-156 | 0.521%

2) NLC: 166-154 | 0.519%

3) NLW: 166-160 | 0.509%

4) ALW: 166-162 | 0.506%

5) ALC: 157-159 | 0.497%

6) NLE: 150-178 | 0.457%

Divisions ranked based on Run Differential (actual):

1) ALE: +66

2) NLC: +37

3) ALW: +24

4) NLW: +12

5) ALC: -11

6) NLE: -132

Divisions ranked based on Run Differential (BaseRuns):

1) ALW: +70

2) ALE: +68

3) NLC: +43

4) NLW: -3

5) ALC: -61

6) NLE: -119

Divisions ranked based on projected rest of season wins:

1) ALE: 247

1) NLC: 247

3) ALC: 244

4) ALW: 243

4) NLW: 243

I have a hard time seeing the bats carry them as well. WC is well within reach though I think.

Probably comes down to whoever stays healthiest.

I added up the position player WAR and pitching WAR on the FanGraphs team leaderboards (through June 17) to determine what the standings of each division would currently look like based on fWAR alone. Despite the abysmal pitching, the Jays ridiculous offense has produced enough to give Toronto the third highest total fWAR among all 30 major league teams (behind the Dodgers and Cardinals), and the highest in the AL by a significant margin. The Jays position players alone have produced more fWAR than the entire rosters of 16 other teams. Also of note, the AL East is pacing all divisions in baseball right now with 78.4 fWAR, 17.8 wins more than the NL East, who are trailing the sport with 60.6.

of course the jays get hot the rest of the division does except the red sox....Sucks they blew that first game in new york, too many winnable games lost this year, could have the best record in baseball, but I digress.

I saw an interesting question in DaveCameron's chat on FG the other day. Saying that when a team is leading by such a large margin that the stats accumulated should barely count towards WAR. If Jeff Francour is pitching is that really fair to count hits off him the same as Cole Hamels? Happens with the Jays this year I notice as well. When the team is up by 4 or 5 runs the opposing team will just put some crap pitcher in and the Jays score another 4-5 runs blowing them out.
