Sounds like a crock of s*** article to me. Aramis Ramirez is about to retire and has pretty much checked out, Victor Martinez had a knee injury and has barely played.

Yeah it's pretty weak. Seems like they had the idea, did some research, found inconclusive evidence and ran it anyway. You can sense a certain ambivalence in the article. "You can't see a trend but you can see it in individual cases" is pretty weak for a site specializing in analytics.

It enraged me so I didn't go to the end, but did they even bother mentioning the guy who usually takes the most time between pitches (Tulo) or did he not fit into the old guy narrative?

pretty s***** analysis by fivethirtyeight. I expected more.

Yeah, I mean not everything you investigate is going to be a smoking gun. They could have just presented the data, the case for and against the hypothesis and just leave it at that rather then try to force it. I'm sure people would have still been curious to read an article like that and at least it would have come off credible.

Sounds like excuses to me. He is 39 years old and can't catch up to the fastball. Throw a fastball up or away and he is flailing away. He is old that is why he is struggling.

Nope. Never came up. The premise that if you give an older player enough time, he'll do a better job guessing at the pitch is pretty dubious. More time also gives more chance for the pitcher and catcher to change their mind and we don't really know or have a good measure on "pitch guessing ability" in the first place. The whole thing rest on very shaky footing. It's basically just parroting Ortiz's opinion who is a chronic complainer anyways.

Tweeting the above would make for a more credible publication.

Thor to the bullpen?

Unlikely to happen, but he is also in danger of being sent to AAA if he gets routed by the Blue Jays tonight (he has been pounded for a line of 10 IP, 20H, 11ER, 1B, 12Ks). Even weak offensive teams like the Padres and Giants, who he last faced, have figured him out. And facing the Jays, it could get ugly..

It'll be interesting to see if Thor ends up very similar to Joe Kelly and Eovaldi in that they all throw hard but can't do s*** with their hard FB.

He's barely walking anyone, he's getting K's. And the ball is staying in the park. Why does anyone think Noah is not pitching well? He's giving up hits. He might have to abandon the Sinker or do something about it. Opponents are batting .422 on it and 30% line drive rate, but chances are that's just a small sample size and more the factor of his game in SD that gave up all those hits. . That's similar to what happened to Masterson the past couple of years, his Sinker was very hittable during certain games.

There's no reason to think that about him though. Syndergaard's fastball has been a very effective pitch so far and the results overall have been outstanding.

All he has in common with those two is that he throws hard. And it's better to throw hard than soft.

Ok since Chicago is not going anywhere fast and fading, would they do samardzija, Albers and soto for dickey Thole navarro wolf and Redman plus 6.95 mill

lol that's bad. Anthony Alford would be involved. Ultimately I think Samardzija ends up in Houston though.

I actually hate Royals fans

lol I actually find it funny. If just a few Royals made it and Moose made it over Donaldson, I'd be a bit upset. It's just a circus freak show at this point. Just have to push Alex Rios ahead of Trout now

f*** only 4 games out of first and 1 game under .500 seems like a bit of a knee jerk reaction by the Padres but whatever. After them dropping all that money in the off season it would be nice to see them fall right out of it lol.

Mets DFA Gee. Yes he sucks but he might be better than what we have. Hes worth a pick up for the depth alone.

I'm really not sure he's better than what we have. His lowest xFIP- in his last 3 years (predictive years) has been 108. He had a nice 2012 but nothing really else to his name.
