GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 if we're evaluating managers based on wins and losses, how do you rate John Farrell? ... career managerial record below .500. how about Hall of Famer Joe Torre? ... below .500 outside of the stacked Yankee dynasty years. Jon Farrell and Joe Torre won rings. Gibbons hasn't. That's all that matters.

Boston was a last place team, then Farrell shows up and makes them champions. You obviously don't know anything about WAR, but the numbers say he's about three times more valuable than the best player in baseball, Miguel Cabrera. Letting him go for Aviles was a franchise-crippling mistake.

Not sure, but it seems you're implying that Cito Gaston was not a great manager, nice try, but try again.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Has the team made the playoffs under him? Check. Mate. Lard of s***.

I hate to agree with you, and I really don't want to hate a guy that got Josh freakin' Donaldson for Brett Lawrie, but I agree, he's not a good GM.

I loved the Donaldson move.... that is, until AA sat around with his thumb up his ass for the rest of the offseason, thinking that was enough and neglecting to address any of the holes on the roster.

deepz Verified Member Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Martin signing, Donaldson trade, (finally but still) exiting JPA (again, it took him long enough), several good drafts, Saunders for Happ. All good things. However he built this team with a "get the girl half-pregnant" mentality. He got good pieces and then just said F the rest of the holes.

I told you guys not to get too excited and that this team wasn't much better than last years team cuz there weren't many more moves coming. You guys were high off the Donaldson move and chose to laugh at me saying it was a long offseason and focused on all the money Rogers was saving. The season is long, but I don't know how this team will make the playoffs with the current pitching staff. Cash was definitely the crippling factor here, hard to blame AA for the offseason after the JD trade, but he set it up with the Buehrle and Reyes trade and in many ways the Dickey trade (would be nice to have an ace right about now).
baloojayz Verified Member Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 MARTIN/DONALDSON/SAUNDERS/TRAVIS/SMOAK cf Add up to about 15 WAR??? This team does not look 15 WAR better than last season, there in lies the problem. I love AA man, guy pulled off some big trades, but he has himself to blame. You don't think Rogers is pissed they are paying Buehrle, Reyes, and Romero a combined ~50M for performance they could get for maybe 5-10M? Hard to blame them for staying pat as well...

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2015 Author Posted May 2, 2015 Hague has value. Barton is more valuable asset
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2015 Author Posted May 2, 2015 Yes, but Hague can play 3B as well. I known Hague very well, and not, he can't play 3rd, teams put him at 3rd.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 Incapable to organize His pieces. Poor management roster. Yes. Exactly. Calling AA a good GM for putting together a fantastic offensive core is like calling a parent good because one of her kids is healthy, smart, and athletic even though her other one is left alone in a locked basement gnawing chicken bones.
Nafro Verified Member Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 Mmmmm, chicken bones. My mom told me she gave me chicken bones, because she loved me most!
