BTS Community Moderator Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Actually, this is kind of fun: http://www.nationalsarmrace.com/?p=5447
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 2017 is already looking brutal: Reyes (22) Martin (20) Bautista (20+ if he's re-signed) Edwin (20+ if he's re-signed) Shields (20+ if he's signed) You don't know what it will cost to resign a 36 year old Bautista and a 34 year old Edwin and they aren't obligated to resign either of those guys. You're also going to have Stroman, Hutch, Norris, Hoffman and Sanchez which could fill out the starting rotation. That could be an extremely dynamic starting rotation on the cheap. The Jays aren't in that bad of shape. Their projected long term centre fielder and 2nd baseman are both going to making peanuts in 2017 as well.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 I dunno, take any team's projected rotation entering 2013 and see how many of the protected 5 are legitimately solid starters now. For veteran proven rotations you might have 2. If two of Norris/Stroman/Hutchison/Hoffman/Osuna look like valuable rotation members (or like they will soon be in the case of the last two) the team has done well. ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 At the end of the 2013 season, we were talking about how bad things were looking for 2015 and 2016. Heck, even entering the off season, most were pessimistic about 2015, 2016 and expected the F/O to sign a bunch of relievers. Forward to now and we're feeling good about the team's quality for 2015 and 2016 after this off season. Let's face it, we been quite wrong lately about the team's direction. On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if ownership agreed to part with Stroman for DD.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 lol @ Minnesota entering 2013: Minnesota: Diamond, Worley, Correia, Pelfrey (if he’s healthy), Hendricks, Duensing, De Vries (maybe Gibson or May? ). Harden on a reclamation project.

BTS Community Moderator Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Thanks for this. And yes, I'd take the actual roster for 2015 over the above one. I doubt there's a single team in the league that would prefer their team's 2011 BA projected lineup. Possibly the Phillies.

SAAviour Verified Member Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 I'm not a fan of shields going forward. I wish Rogers would step up and blow our minds with a 7 year deal for Scherzer. Last couple years would be ugly, and it might take more then 7, but he's a legit Ace. Don't get me wrong, Shields is still decent, but I don't want him at 20 mil per season.

For sure, which shows we shouldn't fret too much over the team's roster 3 years from now. I would think that if the team doesn't make the playoffs next year, a new F/O will be brought in and possibly a new rebuild or retool would follow.

The org clearly likes Stroman, and given the history of exchanging mediocre players for executives the chances are slim to zero that Stroman goes.

I just think some posters have been ridiculing O's fans a bit too much. It kind of reminds me of the lead-up to the Dickey trade when so many were doing the same at Mets' fans insistence that D'Arnaud and Syndergaard would be included. Anyway, just having a bit of fun.

I understand the concern, but Dickey was an obvious case of buying a player at their absolute peak value. The deal was and still is awful, but an executive just does't warrant the return of a player as talented and valuable as Stroman.

Halladay getting injured (and more importantly his illness) and retiring was sad for us... He almost certainly would have been a Jay (on the field) right now, and with the shape he kept himself in, probably still elite.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Speaking of Dickey, given the Jays window of contention, would you rather trade Norris and Pompey for a #1 or sign Shields to 4 years and 80M? I know I'd stand pat, but I think some would go for Big Game Shields.

I don't think it will go 4 for 70...but there's a reason he's still a free agent.

jayswin11 Verified Member Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 I'm ok with winning back to back world series then being s***** for 3-5 years until we get rid of the bad contracts so I if they sign him to a 5 year 110mil deal and we win in 2015/2016 then are terrible until 2020 then oh well. Haven't had much to about since the early 90's anyways.
