Dirks is alright, but one thing... he can be frustrating on defence. Hopefully people can live through him being an idiot sometimes and realize he's a bench player who can actually hit and usually play decent defence... better than Mayberry or Fred Lewis at least.

This is a great signing, don't be an idiot. Any time you get a guy who can potentially contribute for the baseball equivalent of nothing (minor league deal), it's a worthwhile signing.

I dunno if a WAR under 2 would be optimistic. Smoak obviously has some untapped potential, topping 2 WAR, maybe even approaching 3 I think would be optimistic.

One thing we know about Smoak is that his baserunning will be a negative. IMO He's got to carry around a 110 wRC over 500 PA's to be a 1.0 fWAR guy. I'm not sure why people are big on his D...he's been -12 DRS over his last 200 games. Yes that's better than EE (and Lind) but this guy isn't going to be mistaken for Adrian Gonzalez out there.
