Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 How much was he making before being non-tendered? MLBTR expected him to make $1.6 through arb.

reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Dirks is alright, but one thing... he can be frustrating on defence. Hopefully people can live through him being an idiot sometimes and realize he's a bench player who can actually hit and usually play decent defence... better than Mayberry or Fred Lewis at least.

Better than Mayberry whom plays for another club and I have no inkling why you bring up Fred Lewis

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 You honestly dont need a source for this, nobody cares and it isn't thread worthy. Garbage signing, more wasting time by AA meanwhile the Payroll is below last years, so much for Rogers commitment

Any time you get a guy who can potentially contribute for the baseball equivalent of nothing (minor league deal), it's a worthwhile signing.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Fred Lewis has to be one of the most random Jays ever. Mike Bordick is also probably on the short list.

Caper Verified Member Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Fred Lewis had the lowest IQ in bluejays history.

Laika Community Moderator Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 A lot of people here (me included) probably would have just given Smoak and Dirks their original obligations of about ~5M and big league roles. AA was able to sweet talk them and haggle them down to 1M and a minor league deal, respectively. Pretty cooooool

SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 If Smoak, say, gets ~ 500 AB's and Dirks gets, say, 200 AB's, what would a realtistic optimistic predict their WAR values to be for 2015? I'm saying 1.7 and .8 respectively.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 I dunno if a WAR under 2 would be optimistic. Smoak obviously has some untapped potential, topping 2 WAR, maybe even approaching 3 I think would be optimistic.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 One thing we know about Smoak is that his baserunning will be a negative. IMO He's got to carry around a 110 wRC over 500 PA's to be a 1.0 fWAR guy. I'm not sure why people are big on his D...he's been -12 DRS over his last 200 games. Yes that's better than EE (and Lind) but this guy isn't going to be mistaken for Adrian Gonzalez out there.
