Yes, I am not sure if you're aware but Babe Ruth did not play against players of colour. I loved the comments about the triples, seriously. Did someone actually argue that Ruth was probably more fleet of foot than Bonds?

You're telling me colored players are more talented than whites?

You could make the argument that because the league hadn't been integrated in Ruth's time, that it did not fully represent the best players of baseball.

The only colour I see is the colour of their jersey.

lol

This is adjusted for by WAR

No it's not. WAR doesn't take into account that baseball as a sport back then was a joke compared to what it is now. Sure Ruth was head and shoulders above everybody in his time, but he doesn't even dust Bonds' dirty jockstrap. Bonds was head and shoulders above his competition in a game that was countless degrees more difficult to play. It's like trying to argue that some fat child that destroys everybody in little league is comparable to Mike Trout because of how far above his competition he is.

This is probably one of the more dumber comments I've read today. It doesn't matter whether or not colored players are "more talented than whites", it's the mere fact that a massive population of incredibly talented people was barred from playing the game to begin with, which significantly limited the kind of competition players like Ruth had to step to. Anybody who played in that era looks less impressive by default, simply because their competition wasn't as good as it could or should have been.

It doesn't matter who is a better player between Randy Johnson and Barry Bonds, if Barry Bonds isn't even allowed to play the game. If Randy Johnson never has to face a player like Bonds, his numbers will likely look better than if he regularly has to face him.

No. Read it again.

Ruth had almost twice as many triples as Bonds in less AB. Only means that Ruth was no slouch, speed wise. Of course Bonds >>> Ruth speed. However, before Ruth bloated in the latter half of his career, he was quite the athlete. An ace pitcher and home run king.

Having more triples then Bonds has more to do with the cavernous parks of Ruth's day, which incidentally depressed his home run totals. If Ruth played in parks of today's (Bonds era) size, he would have many many more HR.

Also, Ruth did play in exhibitions against Negro League teams and hit .400 in those games.

There were fewer teams in Ruth's day, which somewhat offsets the exclusion of the large group of talent you refer to.

Also, in Ruth's day pitchers were left in much longer, meaning batters saw the same pitcher more often.

As Havok says, there is no way to fairly compare players from different era, hence no way to determine GOAT.

You guys are arguing the unarguable. It's impossible to say what Ruth would do today and what Bonds would do in parks 500ft big back in the day. Two different eras.

What would happen if Gretzky played in todays game with bigger goalie pads and players that train twice as hard. Who knows. In the end you can't argue these things cause as the game goes on things change. Bonds is the best hitter of his era and Ruth is the best of his.

Agreed. Direct your post to Spanky who called Bonds GOAT and started this.

In football you can beat your wife, abuse your kids, take PED's, etc, and still be celebrated. In baseball, if you take PED's, you're the scum of the earth.

Nope, just a cheater and ineligible for the HOF. A choice the players were well aware of when they took the PED's. This was off set by promise of guaranteed contracts

Bonds, clemens, johnson, biggio, piazza, smoltz, Bagwell, raines, walker, Pedro, mussina, schilling, martinez, trammell.

10 votes max is stupid, outdated and blatantly retarded. I refuse to abide by their idiotic rules

I'd also beat the s*** out of the comissioner, reinstate Rose, then make the veterans committed induct him and McGwire.

Then if any old idiot HOF members boycott the induction ceremony, i'd tell them to shut the f*** up an deal with it. They cheated too.

-perhaps so, but the use of "retarded is stupid and outdated as well". Move on to dipshit, way funnier.

It's ridiculous that Bonds, the greatest hitter of our generation and maybe of all time might not get in. These writers need to get their heads out of their ass.

Griffey was a better player than bonds. For all we know, bonds was juicing his whole career.

Shoeless Joe is a travesty. 8 men out is one of my favourite movies of all time.

guessing you didn't see his numbers in the games they lost

And yet there's notourious a$$holes to the human race in the HOF like The guy who treated players like slaves Charles Comisky, the racist Boston owner yarkly, Ty Cobb the notorious jerk and even the Babe had his demons

ouch, ty cobb "the jerk". I can't believe he got in the HOF in 36, let alone got the most votes in the class, more than walter Johnson, ruth etc

What is everyone's thoughts on wether Coke is a performance inhancing drug, cause there are a few notorious coke users in the HOF, even our beloved fergy Jenkins was a know user in the 80's

you obviously haven't known any coke heads. Cant say it enhanced their job abilities much

Its inconceivable that the greatest player of all time isn't in, thats the baseball hall of fame for ya

Weird how he was "head and shoulders above his completion" when he only finished in top 3 in his League in mvp voting before the age of 34?

Before we all start comparing Griffey Jr to Bonds and start tearing him apart, let's take a minute to realize how awesome Griffey Jr was.

Griffey is the Mickey Mantle of his generation. Much like with Mantle, people will always wonder what Griffey could have accomplished with better health and unlike Mantle, Griffey isn't known as someone who abused his body.

Take away Bonds obvious steroid years (2000-2007) and replace them with regular years and then assume Griffey stayed healthy, just maybe you could compare the two.
