It's ridiculous that Bonds, the greatest hitter of our generation and maybe of all time might not get in. These writers need to get their heads out of their ass.

I'm not holding my breath on Bonds, Rose or any of the blacklisted guys. Shoeless Joe still isn't in it and he died in 1951.

Shoeless Joe is a travesty. 8 men out is one of my favourite movies of all time.

And yet there's notourious a$$holes to the human race in the HOF like The guy who treated players like slaves Charles Comisky, the racist Boston owner yarkly, Ty Cobb the notorious jerk and even the Babe had his demons

Nah, its still Ruth. The gap between Ruth and other players of his generation is larger than for Bonds and his. One season Ruth hit more home runs than any other team.

Ruth was a pitcher his first 5 seasons, winning more than 20 games twice. Put him in the field for those 5 years instead, and he's still got the career HR record.

Ruth also had speed, almost twice as many career triples as Bonds, in fewer ABs. Ruth career OBP .474 > Bonds .444

Ruth was a great pitcher, great hitter, and was fueled by hot dogs and bootleg whisky, not 'roids.

Ruth was 4 WAR better than Bonds just as a hitter. Not to mention 14 more WAR from pitching.

He didn't manipulate games? He bet on his club, very different. He deserves to be in, but I get a chuckle when guys, mostly older than me think he's in conversation of GOAT! That's a f***ing joke, he played hard with longevity, but should never be in that discussion .

Yeah but say he he has money on "x" game and it is the 8th inning with a 1 run lead and he has his best reliever who has pitched 3 days in a row sitting in the pen. Does he bring him in to improve the chance his team has to win since he has money on the game when normally he would rest him to preserve him for the rest of the season?

If that same situation happens and he doesn't have money on the game does he alter his decisions? I think that is a very strong case that he could have manipulated games in that way.

Also the BBWAA has on the website that part of the criteria for being in the Hall is based on sportsmanship and character. If you go by that criteria Pete Rose does not deserve to be in the HOF at all. Now personally I really care if they want to elect all these guys to the hall but at least say that the criteria is all about numbers and not sportsmanship etc... I mean when you take that criteria into consideration Bonds shouldn't be in as he was one of the biggest douchebags in MLB history, but he also happened to be one of the best f***in hitters ever.

What is everyone's thoughts on wether Coke is a performance inhancing drug, cause there are a few notorious coke users in the HOF, even our beloved fergy Jenkins was a know user in the 80's

Yes, Ruth was far better than average player then, than Bonds was over the average player in his era, but the gap between replacement and elite always closes over time in every sport. The elite of each era can never truly be compared against each other talentwise.

Then the GOAT can never be assigned. Only 'best of his generation'.

Ruth is to baseball what Gretzky is to hockey.

Okay GD, I'm wrong when pitchers threw meatballs and had limited spin/break on pitches.

Yes, and everyone was hitting off of those pitchers, and the player's stats are compared to the league average. Stats like wRC+ help adjust for and analyze these things.

You're missing my point.

It's a great venue for a baseball fan besides the HOF itself and the park. Beautiful little town with vendors and former HOFamers signing on the main street(Had a picture taken with Alomar on the street). They also have a parade with all the elected members who are present sitting in a car with their name on it....probably about 20 the year I was there...only Barry Larkin and Ron Santo along with Bob Elliot were elected on a down year.

I didn't go for the induction ceremony weekend - but I must say it's an amazing little Town. I can't wait to go back.

Ruth also didn't have the same level of competition. Only played against whites and even then, there wasn't a league full of great players. Bonds played against the best of the best and even with everyone on PEDs still crushed the competition. We'll never see another Ty Cobb or Babe Ruth.

Yes, I am not sure if you're aware but Babe Ruth did not play against players of colour. I loved the comments about the triples, seriously. Did someone actually argue that Ruth was probably more fleet of foot than Bonds?
