eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 He stopped writing the last two seasons I believe - he did come back and wrote the series finale though. Yeah just double checked wiki. The difference between the first few seasons and the last two seasons are like night and day. Kind of like how the Simpsons fell apart after Conan O'Brien and a bunch of other writers left. Anyone can write a drama. Comedy is by far the hardest genre to perfect.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Seinfeld_episodes#Season_8_.281996.E2.80.9397.29 Larry David left Season 8 and 9, though he still did the voice of George Steinbrenner. Still some funny episodes though: "The Frogger" "The Dealership" "The Merv Griffin Show" "The Butter Shave" "The Voice" "The Little Jerry" The episodes were still funny, though they were a lot stupider in comparison to the episodes written by Larry David. You can actually tell by watching Seinfeld which episodes were written by Larry David and which ones weren't lol. From wiki for Seasons 8 & 9: "The show no longer contained extracts of Jerry performing stand-up comedy (Jerry had no time or energy for this with his new roles), and storylines occasionally delved into fantasy and broad humor."
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 I might be wrong but I believe Larry stopped writing Seinfeld episodes in some of the later seasons and those were, by far, the worst episodes. I don't find Jerry Seinfeld to be that funny at all to be honest. His standup act is good for a few mild laughs at best. Jason Alexander is also not funny at all outside of his portryal of George Constanza. David made those two much funnier than they actually were. TL;DR Larry David might be the GOAT Totally agree and when he did leave, the episodes seemed weird, even predictable. I've seen Jerry live a couple of times, he was way better than 99% of the crap comedians churn out, but if that's not your style I can see it being stale. I found (a very old) Bill Cosby to be better. I wonder if Larry's standup is any good, haven't heard much about it.

Larry David has it. Ricky Gervais has it. Seinfeld was a great show but Jerry is only as good as his material. He can't make something that isn't funny, funny. Even Will Ferrell on SNL could take the dumbest sketch in the world and make it hilarious (not saying Ferrell's comedies are good but he's still naturally hilarious). There is nothing worse than a comedian trying to force something.

Farrell is a comedic god... http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/74/the-landlord-from-will-ferrell-and-adam-ghost-panther-mckay (Though in that video I think the little girl takes the cake)
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 So maybe the forum should be re-designed a bit? The off topic forum could be renamed the fantasy forum since that's all that's really active and off-topic threads could be here with OT headings. The only difference is that you can't embed videos in the main forum but you can still link to them so it would be no big loss.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 I have no problem with people going OT in the main forum during the offseason. After all there is only so much that can be discussed baseball wise. During the season I'm more likely to move threads around, etc.

There is literally 0 baseball news to discuss right now. At least we are having nice conversation in this thread.

xposbrad Verified Member Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Hope so A 33 year old with no mlb experience is not really something to hope for. Who knows how he will transition here, it's not like he's a 20 year old with a ton of upside either. 2B is not really a problem, you just need good D there, which we should have. The bigger issue is going to be signing a SP or trading for a #1/#2 guy. Toritani is not going to be a difference maker.

At this point we just need to upgrade wherever/whenever we can. So just to be clear you'd rather have Ryan Goins or Maicer Izturis playing 2B every day?

No one knows, but Travis will likely earn a lot less. Every penny counts with the Jays. I would like to see a top end starter signed, I just don't know how much money they have. I know Travis only saw AA, but he's 23, time to rush him.

baubau Verified Member Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 A.Cabrera on a 1 year deal please Why? The dude has been on a clear decline the past 3 seasons. He hasn't even been a league average hitter the past two seasons posting a 94 wRC+ in 2013 and 97 wRC+ in 2014. He'd Izturis V 2.0. Rather just give the time to Travis. http://38.media.tumblr.com/bff78890808fd2941db8ad41892c8e35/tumblr_mntiolhySW1snpc3lo1_r1_500.gif Pretty much.

I will speak on behalf of the Rays on this one and say it's pretty blah but 1 year contracts are never the worst. It could mean a Zobrist trade is to follow which will be interesting.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Don't really get it with Escobar and Franklin... It's the anti-Rizzo/AA mentality, constantly building a 40 man without too much thought of the starting 8. It can be frus"ray"ting to watch but I'm pretty sure they will get everyone on the team, not named Longoria, 300 to 500 PA's. I'm a big Ryan Brett supporter too and hoped he was the injury move by mid-season.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Don't really get it with Escobar and Franklin... Has to signal a Zobrist trade. Jennings and Kiermaier are both above-average starters in the OF, and they still have Souza, Dejesus, Guyer, and Mahtook. Zero reason to burn Zobrist in the OF, and zero reason to add Cabrera with Franklin, Escobar, and Zobrist in the IF.

I'm surprised he hasn't been traded already.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Sanchez for Zobrist. Put Estrada in the rotation, Redmond as the long man, and Norris as the 1st call up.
