Lol.

Its more so that I would rather not break the bank for a 34 year old player on an expiring contract with little long term upside (hence not blowing my wad to acquire him). If we are dealing Sanchez +, then I want a more permanent solution.

Nobody is going to give you multiple years of an above-average player for Sanchez.

Also very possible Rays would value Osuna over Sanchez.

I don't think they'd be all that keen on either as the centerpiece in a deal for Zobrist.

One member of the Rays front office said "I 100% would rather have Chad Jenkins than Sanchez". Not saying this person has much for influence but if they have any say at all Sanchez will not be acceptable in any deal. Now Norris on the other hand...

Sanchez, Norris or Osuna for Zobrist would be total dum.b. You do not trade a young starter for an aging 2nd baseman who is on the decline and whose contract expire at the end of the year.

lmao

Ok explain why a ,750 OPS, not that good defensively and 34 years old player (yeah he is versatile but if he's playing for the Jays, it will be exclusively at 2nd base) whose contract is expiring?

Mods, time for the banhammer.

Because it is a 4 win improvement on what they have... It would put them as the best team on paper. If Travis progresses it gives them OF and IF depth. Because you have no clue what "good defense" is. If Zobrist leaves he leaves with a pick attached to him.

Now I ask you why TBR trades him for Osuna?

He only had 10 HR and 52 RBI last year. I think Maicer Izturis could give us 5-7 HR and 50 RBI in this lineup.

I would do Sachez or Ozuna in a package i am high on Norris don't know why.....

Sick lineup would be Sick.

First of all, I'd rather have Kawasaki because he is cheaper, plays an inspired game, has some contact skills and decent defensively. Also, he has a positive impact on the humor of the players.

Second of all, Osuna is a young, cost controllable pitcher, who is 15 years younger than Mr Overrated AKA Ben Zobrist who has all to be a top pitcher at his prime

Zobrist probably vaults the team from one of several teams with decent playoff hopes in the AL to clear WS contender.

Hard to believe how many free swingers they had 1-2 years ago to how many guys they got with 9% or more walks....

Do you guys think it would take Sanchez + to get Zobrist?

I mean we got Donaldson - who's superior to Zobrist already - and is under control for 4 more years without having to give up Sanchez. Cards gave up a replacement level pitcher in Shelby Miller (Sanchez had a higher WAR last year in only 33 innings...) to get 1 year of Heyward - who was similar to Zobrist last year, projected to be 1.2 WAR above Zobrist this year and is still on the upswing of his career....oh and they got Walden too - who also had a higher WAR than Miller last year.

It seems almost everyone on this board is "down" on Sanchez - but I simply don't see the need to even give him up for Zobrist - given the current market values this offseason. He still has a ton of growth in him and these type of electric arms don't grow on trees...

The team is already WS contender

Now take one of Bautista, EE, Reyes, Donaldson out of the lineup. Zobrist and a progressing Travis are insurance for these guys too so if you believe the Jays are a WS contender...Zobrist is the ultimate player for this team.

Why take out Bautista, Encarnacion, Donaldson or Reyes out of the lineup?

Keep them healthy and fresh. It's not a young core and a guy like Zobrist can spell off many players in a given week. That has tremendous value.

As it stands, two out of 4 the teams outfielders are likely to be rookies and the second baseman will either be a rookie or a scrub. Having Zobrist makes the lineup deeper and more versatile and a lot less vulnerable at those positions. It's a really, really good fit and would greatly solidify the playoff chances. Given the Jays position on the win curve, it would be worth making sacrifices to get him. Norris would hurt a lot since he is likely to be needed in the rotation as soon as this year but a younger asset like Osuna or even Miguel Castro might well be worth sacrificing.

BTW - this makes me wish we could have dealt Sanchez + to the Braves for Heyward and Walden. Pompey gets another year development.

Travis is a good bat too. Yeah Zobrist is better, but I wouldn't pay a young pitcher for a rental

you're dismissing the compensation pick attached to zobrist. sanchez can easily be replaced

You kind of omit the replacement comes in like 2018...

Injuries happen, you have one of the oldest teams in the league. Right now the offensive depth I'd be willing to play is Travis.
