Gorlak Verified Member Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 It's a pretty good show that gets overrated because simple people love gratuitous violence and nudity. It's just entertainment, not very deep or revolutionary. If somebody watches GoT for the nudity or violence they are mouth breathers. Also it is the deepest show I've seen since the wire.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 If somebody watches GoT for the nudity or violence they are mouth breathers. Also it is the deepest show I've seen since the wire. Idk about deep but it is a pretty smart show

Also it is the deepest show I've seen since the wire. What's deep about it? It doesn't challenge your perspective on anything. It doesn't make you reconsider your position on good vs. evil. It's epic scale fantasy with lots of shocking blood and gore. If there's a twist of any kind, spoiler alert, someone dies. How deep is a show that strictly kills people off to create entertainment value? I watch it and it's enjoyable but it doesn't come close to Breaking Bad or the Wire.

I blitzed through Twin Peaks for around 10 days about a month ago. Before Laura Palmer's killer is revealed it's basically the best thing ever, then takes a steep decline. I'm excited for the return next year. Interesting that it will be 25 years since the original run, given the plot significance the time period of 25 years has. Still haven't seen Band of Brothers, probably go through that after I start Broadchurch on netflix.

There is a significant amount of "who is good and evil", "what actions are justified", etc. Also most of the deaths on the show serve a purpose. They are mainly there to further the plot. I mean the show isn't perfect, but its pretty damn good. Definitely the best show currently running.

Apparently they got pressured into making changes and revealing the killer because of poor ratings: Lynch expressed his regret at having resolved the Laura Palmer murder, stating he and Frost had never intended for the series to answer the question and that doing so "killed the goose that laid the golden eggs". Lynch blames network pressure for the decision to resolve the Palmer storyline prematurely.[56] Frost agreed, noting that people at the network had in fact wanted the killer to be revealed by the end of season one.[57]

I guess Sons of Anarchy just wrapped up so technically that isn't in the way anymore. It's definitely the most popular show still running. It's like the Foo Fighters of TV Shows.

They may follow AHS and become filler after the first season, although I doubt it because HBO makes good TV. breaking bad was over rated
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 breaking bad was overrated Yes it was.

True Detective season 1 was very good, but lets see how season 2 goes.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Yes it was. You didn't like Breaking Bad? It was pretty f***ing good, and its last season actually delivered.

The characters actually have depth in GoT and the difference between good and evil is quite nuanced. Is the Hound Evil?

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 You didn't like Breaking Bad? It was pretty f***ing good, and its last season actually delivered. I liked it a lot, and I loved the final season, it's just not as great as people make it out to be. I've always had lots of other shows that I thought were better, like Boardwalk, Shameless, Homeland.... maybe House of Cards and Suits too.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 The characters actually have depth in GoT and the difference between good and evil is quite nuanced. Is the Hound Evil? Lannisters = power hungry and evil. Boltons = power hungry and evil. Starks = good. Baratheons = power hungry and evil. Tyrells = mostly good. Every soldier/guard ever = sadistic ******* who enjoys rape. The Hound was probably the best character on that show as he allied with no one. I also enjoy Littlefinger and the small amount of time with Prince Oberyn.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 I guess if quality = mindless slaughter, sure. Sons of Anarchy was basically just mindless slaughter and gratuitous Jax Teller butt shots.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 GoT is a pretty meh port of what is an above average book series. The show cuts out some major parts of the plot and it ruined the watching experience for me. The acting is well done, the world building is well done and the fit of what the book describes is remarkable, but it's just a meh show that I really hope bridges the way for better book series to be transitioned over.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Sons of Anarchy was basically just mindless slaughter and gratuitous Jax Teller butt shots. not really. You see a lot of Juice's butt too.

Hound was dope though, but not because he didn't ally (Since he did).

Seeing Danaerys' tits made me re-evaluate my position on human existence.

Seeing Danaerys' tits made me re-evaluate my position on human existence. They were pretty nice tits, but I got over that after the first episode... I've found that if I binge watch a season of GoT, it's enjoyable... but watching a single episode makes me realize how little actually happens in each episode...

I've found that if I binge watch a season of GoT, it's enjoyable... but watching a single episode makes me realize how little actually happens in each episode... This is mostly due to the fact that there are like 20 main characters, and each storyline only gets like 5 mins per episode.

A lot of really stupid people love GoT. It's not hard to understand. If you wanna pretend it has a deeper meaning, that is perfectly acceptable.
