If they give him 2/9 with an option then good but 3-4 years guaranteed is too much.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 This is taking forever... Its been several days and we still don't know where Toritani and Kang are going. I know where they are not going because I listen to the Mike Wilner show. Transcript of recent show: Wilner (smug, condesending) - "Some of you have been dreaming of a foreign middle infielder under your stocking..." Wilner (long pause to rub it in) Wilner - "I hate to be a scrooge..." Wilner (pausing again and smirking because he actually loves being a scrooge) Wilner - "Despite the rumors this is not going to happen..." Wilner - "The Jays did not win the bidding for Kang..." Wilner - "Toritani is a Boros client... you know what that means" Wilner - "And after Hechavaria underwelmed Rogers won't give permission for AA and his scouts to bid on Cuban players..." Wilner - (Pauses, enjoys bringing christmas dissapointment to the fans) Wilner - "But I know some of you still believe in Ryan Goins..." Wilner - (doesn't believe in Ryan Goins either, but who cares... his job is to promote Rogers not promote reality) Wilner - "And you might be right. Ryan Goins might still have more to offer then we've seen so far."
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 He did not suggest that Goins could be and actual possibility, did he?

So is his reasoning that the Jays aren't signed Toritani based on his Boras comment? If so, then he has no more info than we do, and he should stop being so smug about it. Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 He did not suggest that Goins could be and actual possibility, did he? This is an old article. September 2013. Wilner hates to be wrong.... http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/wilner-goins-the-answer-for-jays-at-second-base/ Not sure what his latest thoughts on Goins are... but would Wilner say... "Ryan Goins is dog-s***, just the way it is folks. My employer Rogers is dogshit too. A few million to improve on Ryan Goins would be money well spent... but f***... Rogers is so cheap they couldn't give me $1000 dollar christmas bonus. They gave me $20 dollars off any rogers service. Thanks f***ers. My first cable bill of the year will be $210 instead of $230... but no actually. It's 20 bucks off a new service that is $100 bucks or more... so I actually won't save 20 bucks on my bill.. f*** all of you... merry f***ing christmas *******s!"

I'm not sure... the only comment that was 100% Real-Wilner certified is the Kang one. The others are just poking fun at Wilner in the style of the "fake-Wilner" twitter account. I have no association with FackeWilner1. But have been inspired by the account to occasionally plagerise their "fake-wilner' parody gig.

Wilner - "And after Hechavaria underwelmed Rogers won't give permission for AA and his scouts to bid on Cuban players..." At least we have Wilner outing Rogers' implicit racism here: Hechavarria underwhelmed. Hechavarria is Cuban. All Cubans must be just like Hechavarria and will underwhelm?
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Pirates won bidding as per MLBTR. Per Jon Heyman! Give him credit. I wonder what the $$ is.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Alvarez, Walker, Kang, and Harrison looks like a damn good infield.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Pirates won bidding as per MLBTR. Nice to get resolution on this. I'm assuming he'll play SS for the Bucs. That's definitely where their need lies.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Alvarez, Walker, Kang, and Harrison looks like a damn good infield. 3B Harrison 2B Walker SS Kang 1B Alvarez UTIL Mercer They must be very sure Kang can stick at SS.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Alvarez, Walker, Kang, and Harrison looks like a damn good infield. It's decent. Alvarez isn't a great option at first base but Walker and Harrison are nice. Kang is probably a below-average defender so he'll need to hit.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 One annoying thing about this is that the Pirates weren't really talked about as one of the teams needing a MI. This doesn't eliminate a contender from the race to sign the remaining guys. The Giants are still rumoured to be sniffing around for middle infield help. The Padres are still in it and have to be considered the front-runners for Toritani now that we know they won't land Kang. The Mets are still looking for a guy unless the Tulowitzky rumours are true in which case Colorado may want to add a veteran to their mix. Are the Yankees really content to into the season with Pirelli+Didi as their middle infield and will the Angels be content to go the spring tryout route for their 2B job? Lots of domino left to fall and knowing that the Jays don't want to make a big commitment, it seems quite likely they will wait out the market and take what's left (if anything).
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Maybe the Jays can pry Mercer away from the Pirates now.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Maybe the Jays can pry Mercer away from the Pirates now. Mercer still has options. There's no real emergency for them to trade him.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Mercer still has options. There's no real emergency for them to trade him. if it adressed a need for them I'm sure they would. Nice target.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 if it adressed a need for them I'm sure they would. Nice target. What do they need that would justify giving up the shortstop depth they have behind Kang?

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 I'm starting to think (maybe always have thought) Travis was the 2B acquisition for this off season and AA is content going into the season with him,Izzy,Tolleson and Goins competing for the starting job in the spring. Guys like Burns,Schimpf,Berti,Diaz will be on the outside looking in and could be longshots if they have an exceptional spring. When Lowrie came off the board for less than 8M and only 3 years my expectations for an upgrade at 2B went out the window. I think Asdrubal on a pillow contract is still a possiblity. It really depends on whether a market has developped for him and how impatient he is to sign. All the international players in the middle infield market have muddied the waters and slowed things down. In any case, Travis is an excellent fall back and AA was smart to acquire him early. It puts him in a much better position than at this time last year. I think AA would like to sign someone but they would have to come down to his price not the other way around. Travis makes that position a lot safer than it would be otherwise.
