The expected return of the deal is rumored to be pitching prospects, so no real catching option will be acquired according to reports. That leaves Dioner Navarro as one of the best catchers available on the trade market. I have heard that Aaron Hill could be available, with Owings and Pennington manning the middle infield for the DBacks...Hill could be a real option for the Jays. Thoughts on Navarro to the Backs and what the possible return could be? *There you go Sammy225 Edited December 9, 2014 by SantosLHalper21

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Navarro for Ziegler is even money + fills a short term need for both teams.

Hill is not good anymore, he's past his prime... I wouldn't touch him with a 10-foot pole
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Hill is not good anymore, he's past his prime... I wouldn't touch him with a 10-foot pole He was really good in 2012 and 2013. I'd be willing to give him a mulligan on 2014.

He wasn't really good in 2013, he was just okay. He will be 33 going into next season and he didn't fair well as a Blue Jays in his final time here. And he's had a negative UZR the last 3 seasons, that's likely only going to get worse. Not a risk I'd take.

His last year was when he was Dwayne Murphied though. IF Dbacks ate a substantial part of his contract, Hill would be a nice upgrade on Goins at the plate. He could help transition to Travis, if he develops well.

He would be an upgrade over Goins at the plate, but would he actually be an upgrade overall? I'm not even sure... Goins defense is substantially better. Hill was an exciting player a couple years ago (again), but he likes to go into these funks, or age is finally catching up to him.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Why would the Diamondbacks trade a young, controllable, pretty good reliever for a replacement level catcher? Cause he's so darn huggable
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Why would the Diamondbacks trade a young, controllable, pretty good reliever for a replacement level catcher? If they knew Navarro is replacement level would they ever have traded Montero? They still wouldn't deal Marshall for him, but in no way are the D-Backs buying into pitch framing values.

Because Dave Stewart is dumn! (just look at how he valued Montero) Maybe he's not a realistic target. Maybe a reliever a tier below Marshall.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Yep, Ziegler seems most realistic. Cost is a wash and it fills needs for both teams. I'd try to get Delgado, though. Aim high.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Delgado would be nice seems like a good old AA buy low candidate
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Delgado would be nice seems like a good old AA buy low candidate His xFIP is better than Morrow's so that would be phenomenal if we could get him for that fat sack of s*** Navarro
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 His xFIP is better than Morrow's so that would be phenomenal if we could get him for that fat sack of s*** Navarro He was solid out of the pen last year as a long man. Still is young enough and has the potential to be a decent starter.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 He was solid out of the pen last year as a long man. Still is young enough and has the potential to be a decent starter. They can't be that dumb to trade Delgado for Navarro can they? It would be a coup for AA.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Doubt that's possible. Ziegler I could see though.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 They can't be that dumb to trade Delgado for Navarro can they? It would be a coup for AA. Never underestimate the stupidity of the DBags.
Westfan Verified Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 . Navarro has little value at 5 mil but I guess if the Jays eat enough salary he might bring a decent enough reliever. I'm not setting my hopes very high.
JaysRap Verified Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 I'd like to take Wade Miley too and stick them with Dickey. But they'd probably want us to take Hill at a minimum.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 They can't be that dumb to trade Delgado for Navarro can they? It would be a coup for AA. The DBacks have made stupid trades over the last two years. AA has been a true ninja this offseason, so if this is like the AA who went out and got guys like Morrow, Rasmus, Escobar when they were undervalued, then Delgado fits the bill.
